[There's singing audible as the mirror becomes active, although it only shows leaves for a moment as the vine seems to hide behind a tree branch. It moves out into the open slowly, showing Mahalia stood in a small clearing.
She's the one singing, although there's no human words to the song, only sounds. A birdsong, something that might seem quite strange coming from a young girl's throat. The meaning is still clear in the notes and the tone - something of a lullaby, a song meant to sooth and comfort, and it will invoke those feelings a little in anyone listening. Remind them of warm, safe places, home.
It's a familiar song to her, and she's singing it to try and comfort herself, but it isn't really working. She's already crying, and has to stop singing every now and then as her tears disrupt her voice, but always continues again after a moment, determined to finish.]

That's beautiful. How did you learn it?

I'm sorry, I didn't realise the vine... [She'd intended to keep her tears private, but the damage was done, and she was too well-mannered to not answer.]
My godfather taught me. That song is one of his favourites.
[Or at least the one he sang to her the most, the one that reminded her of him the most.]

I've never heard anyone sing like that before.

He's birdsouled, my godfather. It's taken me a long time to learn, and I only know a little, really.

It was lovely, though.

[She dips her head slightly.] Thank you. I've been practising a long time.

[a warm smile]
It shows. Is that a special kind of singing technique? I've never heard anything like it!

Thank you. [She tucks her head down, pressing her hands into her eyes.] I miss him.

Do you wish company?

I didn't realise the vine would do things without our asking.

You heard the song?
