ⅻ - [text]

[careful writing appears on the Vine, slowly, a pause after each line. The writer is copying it down from a book, after all.]

If recollecting were forgetting,
Then I remember not.
And if forgetting, recollecting,
How near I had forgot.
And if to miss, were merry,
And to mourn, were gay,
How very blithe the fingers
That gathered this, Today!

[with that, the handwriting grows more confident and natural again, continuing further down the page.]

I found this in a book in the library...and a lot of other things like it. Is it some kind of puzzle? What does it mean?

I believe that it is not uncommon for poetry to have that effect on people, especially someone unfamiliar with the art.

I've never read that particular poem before, but it deals with grief and loss.

Yep. Mmm, a warm embrace... soft lips... those feelings... They're one of the best joys of being alive.

Yeah, it was probably a long-shot that you'd be in love with all of them, but, you know, I couldn't just rule that out.

[Zenobia grins, wide.] Well, it would depend on "why" and "how did it feel," but, probably.

... Oh, so you're another alien.

Well, at least you're exposing yourself to some of my stuff! You should read more of Emily's works.

Yeah, it definitely is.

I'm not a big fan of poetry though...

Yes, they are. I hope you've made one or two here that you can share with. If not, there's no time like the present, and I'm sure you can find someone receptive here.
I hope I've been helpful-- you're always free to drop in on me and the various little robots here, and Sephiroth too, of course! Since she's my housemate.

Oh, so she started it? I bet she looked really cute when she got all worried.

It sounds like a pleasant memory.

hmm... not that I know of, no. There might be someone who's better at poetry, though. I'm pretty much only good with, uh, "expository writing." Or describing things.

[identity profile] notvitiligo.livejournal.com 2011-05-17 04:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That's expository. It's explaining something to someone else. Well, to nobody else, I guess, if it's a diary, but... you get the idea. There's, um... four kinds of writing: Expository, Descriptive, um... Narrative, and Persuasive. And I guess poetry's something else, but it's not one of the useful ones. [SO IT SUCKS.]

Yes. Someone is cute if they are pleasant to behold and if looking at them makes you happy. ...At least, that's how I think of it.

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe she'll show up in the garden some day?
