[Rose is by the lake as well, fashioning and assembling an amulet. All this robot wrangling almost made her forget about it, but she's finally close to finishing. She sees the sparkling girl and her cottage, wondering just how she constructed it in such a short amount of time.

Oh, I merely used the "magic" soil from the edges of the gardens. I was amazed to see that it worked precisely as I was told it would! Although... I don't recall any mention of a change to my appearance. I do hope that is a temporary effect; it's a bit disconcerting. [She tilts her hand back and forth, watching the sunlight glitter across it.]

Ahhh, yes. I've heard of the magical soil. I was told I could use it to make the final component for this amulet. But I didn't know using it had side effects...

I suppose it might be due to a different variable... As I am absolutely untutored in any sort of magic, I'm afraid I haven't a clue what might have happened.

Still, I'm quite pleased that I can set up my own facility to continue my work while separated from my family!

Well, if you've been out into the wilds for your building materials, that might explain it! Yes, effects like this one do seem to occur when people spend too long in that environment. A good friend of mine was affected too, but she grew a wing and became disoriented. Nothing as decorative as what you've achieved! No fear, it'll fade I'm sure-- hers did, in a short time.

So, what's next for you, starting a big project or three? That's quite a facility you've set up!

Yes, there is a great variety of life here in the Garden, I'm sure you'll find lots to study. If it's all right with you, I'll drop by from time to time for a look at what you're willing to show me. Scientific minds flock together and all that!
You've said your father is a scientist-- a biologist, if I remember correctly. What sorts of studies does he pursue?

Papi's chief interest is in the area of life and the myriad forms it takes, particularly within the animal kingdom, and the similarities in those forms. I don't really understand why, but it's rather controversial to many people where I come from. I suppose there are quite a lot of people who wish to cling to the silly belief that humans are not animals themselves.

Do you think it would work outside of the Gardens? I'd been assuming it wouldn't, but I guess we can't really know. I mean, even if someone tried it we wouldn't hear about it, would we?

I hadn't thought of that... of course, it wouldn't follow under normal circumstances, but I suppose things might work a bit differently here, since there's, er, "magic" at work. How disappointing. Still, it should be worth a try!
