[There's no video, initially--only the sound of a basketball bouncing hollowly, the sound of sneakers scraping against the ground.

The video flickers on. Rose petals--white and red, flutter to the ground, from some unknown source. There's a slightly unnerving moment where girl-shaped shadows flicker along the surface of the mirror before Utena shows up, a triumphant expression on her face.]

Wow, it really worked! [She runs along the court, and the shadows chase after her, along the trees. They stop, one on each tree, facing one another, and seem to be in the midst of a conversation. Utena, however, appears unaware. She shoots a basket, she scores! The Shadow Girls go wild! Complete with shadow pompoms and shadow confetti.

The ball rolls to a stop at her feet, and she frowns and falls into a series of stretches.]

It's no fun without anyone else.

[The shadows appear to be squabbling. Utena scratches the back of her head, and starts to bounce the basketball around again.]

[ooc: Utena's made a basketball court. A...really weird one! Feel free to bug her! Aww yeah. If anyone points out the Shadow Girls to her, she won't notice them. Yeah, I don't get it either. lol weird ass canon.]

You know, it's kind of funny what each of you girls makes to remind you of home.

[As if on cue (and it more than likely is on cue), more rose petals flutter by. These are orange, tinged bright red at the tips. Utena stops her aimless bouncing of the basketball, and waves in greeting.]

Hi, Paderau! [She grins, and rubs the back of her neck.] Have you made anything yet? It's easy.

Nah, that's not really deal, changing the world. Supposed to be more humble than that.

I see. It's incredible, honestly. [ ] It completely defies, well, everything logical I can think of, but it's difficult to deny this, ah, magic at this point.

[She gives an impressed whistle when she comes upon the court.]

[More rose petals are caught by a sudden gust of wind: white petals, which bleed into red.

Utena beams at the compliment. She still doesn't get the whole concept of creating something from nothing, but she can't help but be a little proud.] Thanks! Do you play?

[Larry's just chalking that up to the gardens for now.]

[Utena smiles, because hey, new person!] I'm playing basketball! Or...well [The grin turns sheepish.] ...I'm practicing.

[Oh, and have some girly rose petals, Azula. These are bright blue with white tips--like blue flame.]

Never heard of it.

[Buuut, she did enjoy playing volleyball (re: humiliating her opponents in defeat and getting fire involved unnecessarily), so maybe she will try this game out. She would also normally be a bit annoyed by all the fluttering flower petals, but...well, she likes the color of these ones.]

What do you call this, if you don't mind me asking?

[She hasn't been very sociable at all lately, but this reminded her of home.]

It's basketball. It's a sport I play at home.

[The Shadow Girls have appeared along the surface of the trees again, and begin to pantomime a game, though Utena is not aware of this.] There's five players on each team, and a basket on both sides of the court. You score a point by shooting the ball in the opposing team's basket.

There's a bunch of other rules, but those are the basics.
