Book 1 [Video]

[What the Vine reveals this time is quite a sight. A young woman stands, angrily tying a fur skirt around her waist over her pants, hair hanging messily in her eyes. To the side sits the white shift she doubtless woke up in, in a crumpled heap and smoldering in more than one place. Now dressed, she picks up a scroll, the edges signed, and wrenches it open only to let out a furious huff a few moments later.

Then she stomps closer to the mirror and reaches out to grab the edges, pulling it in close to her face. She does not look happy. At all.]

Hey! I don't know how this thing is supposed to work, but somebody out there had better tell me who this Queen is and where I can find her. I'm the Avatar and if she thinks she can just snatch me and put me in a dress? Oh, she has got another thing coming.

I don't know any of those, either. I mean, the old Avatar did. He was supposed to be a really good guy...eventually. But not me. I hope yours are better than this Queen, at least.

Yeah they're pretty ok! This place, though, is not so easy to really deal with.


And the queen brought us here for a weird reason.

Uh. It's weird for me to explain. She sorta wants girls fostering relationships and stuff with other girls.

So, you mean she wants us to be friends? I mean, I noticed that everyone so far was girls, that is kinda weird...

Uh...yeah, something like that. Except, like, not just friends.

More like how dudes and girls are friends when they get older and junk.

Wait. Waaaait wait wait. You mean like the kissing kinda friends?

Yeah. It's kinda weird. And ya know, BEYOND kissing is other stuff I'm not even tryin' to think about.

I mean, where I'm from, girls with girls isn't, like, any more normal than anything else, but in some peeps worlds its a big, bad deal.

B-Beyond? I don't...I've never even thought about...[Yeah Korra is just. Going to try to shake that one off.]

I'd never really given it any thought. Or boys, for that matter. I mean. I haven't been around many my age, until recently.

[Hey, at least she was older than her!]

I hadn't even been around other humans until now. It's pretty weird!

So what's an Avatar?

...Really? What were you around, then?

[She is getting used to this question now.] I'm the keeper of balance in the world, and I make sure nobody messes everything up. Also, I can use all four elements, instead of just one. It's pretty awesome.

[fionna_time]

Oh you know. There was a huge nuclear war, lotsa things died, so now its all messed up. I go around fighting bad guys and dudes that go around hurting the people of Ooo.

[Sputtering] Are you serious?! You can use elements?! That's flippin' awesome! How?

Man. I mean, my world just had a huge war, too, 70 years ago. But it didn't even come close to wiping out all the people! That's terrible. Sounds like you're doing a lot of good out there, though.

[Oho, what better way to answer that to give a demonstration. Korra smirks before taking a few paces back, making sure there's plenty of room for the mirror to take it in. Then she drives her foot to the earth, causing a slab of rock to shoot up, and with a stiff punch sends it hurtling through the air. She follows this up quickly with a high kick, trailing fire as it swoops back towards the ground.]

Hey, I do my best! There's always gonna be monsters and things in my world, and there's still stuff like that here! So I'm on my guard.

[Fionna watches, spellbound. It was one thing to here someone day that, but to see it?]

WOW! You're hardcore! Where'd you learn that stuff?!

Sounds like a pretty good philosophy to me. I don't really have a choice, I was kinda born to be a hero, but I know I'd be doing it anyway!

[Is that a smug look on Korra's face? Why yes I think it is.]

I've pretty much been able to do it since I was little. I've spent the last, man, ten years training now, though.

[fionna_time]

[There are stars in her eyes, Korra, literally stars. It was one thing with Billie, the hero in her world, who was full of awesome. But it was something else altogether to see a real living and breathing hero, who had awesome muscles and could actually change the elements]!

Ten years! Man! I've trained too, but I can't do junk like that. You're so cool!

[poutbender]

Ha, well, you kind of have to be born into it. Some people are Benders, and some people just...aren't.

[She grins.] But yeah, I kind of am, huh.

[fionna_time]

Oh. Dang. I thought I might be able to be one.

Heck yes! I wish I could do that stuff! And you look real friggin' strong!

Nah, probably not. Sorry. Though I guess I could teach you some of the stances. Bendings as much a martial art as it is about the elements.

Well, I've worked hard to get here. It's taken a lot of effort, but it's gonna be worth it.

I'd totally be cool with that! I want to learn as much as I can!

I'll bet ya did, you don't get strong like that overnight. What are you gonna do in your world?
