Keep Hanging on

Characters: Fionna, anyone
Date: 2/7, Night
Summary: Totally beat up, Fionna does her best to maintain.
Warnings: bleeding, pain, woobiness.

Her leg was burning, her neck still had blood flowing freely, and she could barely stand. But she wouldn't fall, she would NOT fall right now. She had been beaten, beaten and cut and hurt harder than she had ever been before, and Akiha had been right: she underestimated her.

And she'd been called weak, little girl, pathetic.

Useless.

"NO!" Fionna said aloud, wincing. "Not doing it man! I am a hero! I just...need to get my stuff taking care of. I just...need to get better."

Is the little princess ok? You can quit anytime, just wear a dress and work the court as a maid.

"I'm an adventurer! I'm not going anywhere!"

"I can take care of myself," she promised as she lay Fionna onto the bed. Her mouth was set into a hard line, but in her eyes a furnace of righteous anger was burning. "She won't get away with this."

Fionna reached up, and grabbed at her. "Dude. No. I'm sorry, but there are things even I can't let you do. I just barely got away. She is FAST and she is dangerous. I dunno how long this will last but I don't want you getting hurt. I already had somebody like that because of me."

She sighed. "If I were better, I'd say we should both go, but...I don't think its her. That's the thing. She was meaner somehow, and liked killing things."

"All the more reason someone need to take her down," Amamiya said. She made no move to leave the bedside, though, and reached down to take Fionna's other hand in her own. "I promise, I'll be back. I've taken on worse, I'm sure."

"That's what I'm-dude, don't you get it? As long as she's like this, she could hurt peeps, including you! If she gets, you know, back to her senses, we could make sure it doesn't happen again. I could tell it wasn't really her: her hair was all red."

Amamiya hushed her. "You need to rest," she said. "I'll get you some food, and then you need to sleep."

Fionna shook her head. "You know that I can't do that unless I know for sure that you'll be ok and you won't try to go after her. I don't want her doing what she did to me to you. Please, Amimiya."

Amamiya sighed. "Alright," she promised. "I won't go after her."

She said it with all apparent sincerity. But it was a lie. The instant Fionna fell asleep, she was going to begin her roaring rampage of revenge.

Fionna stared at her a long time. Man, she hated it when people lied to her, and Amimiya was not the kind of person to just let something like this go, was she? No, she was too nice, she was too much like the hero she kept trying to be.

And if something happened to her, she wouldn't forgive herself.

But she was definitely too weak to argue any longer. She was tired. "Thanks," she said quietly. "You know, you can throw me out at any time, so I don;t drop any more drama bombs your way."

"Don't be ridiculous," she said, getting up and heading back to the kitchen. She returned a moment later with a bowl of rice and fish, which she handed to Fionna. "Eat up."

"I'm not being-" But her voice trailed off as she attacked the rice and the fish. "You can throe me out if I cause too much stuff, I'd understand man. I'm real happy you've done all this."

"I'm not going to throw you out."

She was phenomenally angry, and not only at this Akiha character, but also at herself. Fionna had nearly died, and where had she been? Too late to save her, just like the others.

Would she have felt better if she had? Probably not: she just would have felt worthless, and that wasn't something she wanted for Amimiya.

"No one could have stopped it," she said, almost as if she could read Amimiya's mind. "Besides, it wasn't so much the pain that bothered me. It was how I was a fly to her, like I was pathetic and she was only fighting me to teach me a lesson. I wasn't even worthy of her time."

"What did she do?" Amamiya said, sitting down at the edge of the bed. One hand reached out and laid itself on Fionna's. "If you're okay telling me."

"She told me a bunch of stuff," Fionna said. "Like how there was only prey and predators, and how the strong ruled over the week. She laughed at me, saying my hero ideals were stupid, and told me I wasn't even worthy for her to fight. I know I shouldn't have cared, but she just wanted to hurt me because she wanted to prove how much better she was. She didn't even..."

She choked up a little. Fionna could take a lot of things, but getting to the heart of her? That could really bring her down. "It was like I wasn't really anything to her."

Amamiya hesitated for a moment, and then swooped in to give Fionna a hug. It was short and kind of stiff and awkward - she's not good at this okay - but she was trying her best.

"She's wrong."

Fionna sighed. "I should just tell myself that. I have. But the more I think about what happened to Marceline and all, the more I start to wonder if I deserved what happened. I dunno. I feel like...like I don't know what to believe anymore. I never expected this was going to be so hard."

She looked down.

"This has nothing to do with what happened then," Amamiya said with a sigh. She knew that feeling of guilt all too well. She'd dealt with it by retreating inwards, and disconnecting from everybody else...but Fionna didn't seem like the kind of person who could do that.

"Just get some rest, all right?" she said. "You'll hopefully feel better in the morning."

"I hurt her. I was hurt because I thought I could help some guys. It's not all too different. How do I even know she's not gonna come back?"

That was a scary thought, mostly because Fionna knew she was in no condition to fight back.

"If she does, I'll protect you," she promised. This one was real, too; Mind you, the best defense was a good offense...

"You haven't seen what I can do. I don't know what sort of powers she uses, but I'm sure I've seen worse."

Fionna wasn't weak, and was intent on showing Amimiya this when she winced noticeably at the cuts on her shoulder.

"She was quick, fast, and meant business, Amimiya. Never saw anything like it. And she could hurt more. I just hope it goes away. She's cruel, vicious."

Amamiya shook her head. "She won't hurt you again. Not while I'm here."

Fionna sighed. "If she was herself, she wouldn't anyway. She'd just think I was beneath her."

"More the fool is she, then."

Fionna didn't quite agree...at the moment. She certainly didn't intend on staying weak, as it seemed she needed to kick it up a notch.

"She keeps saying it, though. Am I really weak compared to you guys?"

"I don't know," she said honestly. "I've not really seen you in action."
