[There's a quiet rustle, and the blur of green gradually begins to separate into whites, blacks, browns. An eye fills the mirror, framed by a thin black rim.

Any minute now, the eye will blink.

[Her smile turns just the slightest bit sheepish.] Thanks. And um, it's sort of like gardening. The magic dirt works a lot faster.

[When they arrive at the door, Utena holds it open for Anthy. The inside of the building appears to be a perfect - albeit far less spacious and empty - replica of their first dormitory, before they'd moved into the Tower. Remarkably, it's clean. Either Utena has gotten in the habit of picking up after herself, or the birds have intervened.]

[It's probably easier to keep things neat when the closet is usable, in any case. Regrettably, Anthy's octopus float didn't make the trip here with her.

She takes a few careful steps inside, far enough to leave room for Utena to follow, and stops to give the room a unhurried once-over.

It's clean, but nonetheless lived-in.]

Utena-sama...

[She's moving to close the door, but she glances to Anthy and tilts her head.]

Hm?

[Anthy hesitates, but just for a moment.]

When...when was it that you came here?

Huh. [Utena puts a hand on her hip and frowns, thinking back.] It's odd, but I've been here twice. I was here last winter...until the spring, and then I came back. I've been here since the summer.

[That is odd; it also wasn't quite what Anthy meant. She speaks more slowly this time, searching for words.]

When you came back here...what had happened? Before you came?

Hm. [Utena frowns, thinks back...and then the memory returns to her.] Ruka-senpai had come back from the hospital, and Shiori-san...

[The thought of Shiori appears to make her uncomfortable, and she glances away, clears her throat.] After that, Juri-senpai and I had a duel. [She bites the inside of her lip. That had been a strange duel.] And then, well, I ended up here.

Ah, I see.

[She doesn't exactly relax, but she moves further in, returning her attention to the room.]

I don't think I am hungry, after all.

[A blink.] All right. No tea, either?

[And Utena slips off her shoes, unwinds the scarf around her neck to put it away.] Do you need a tour? Er, but it's the same as our old dorm, so maybe you don't.

[Anthy's only answer is a vague smile before she begins to remove her own shoes, smoothing her the pleated skirt as she leans down. The white shift is folded neatly under a bush somewhere well behind them.]

It may not be necessary, Utena-sama.

[Mostly the same, but not caked with decades of dust. The requirement that each victor inhabit a different room can be inconvenient.

She spares a moment of regret for the octopus float.]

If you're sure...

[She gives Anthy a quizzical look, but that's really nothing new. Many of Anthy's idiosyncrasies were lost on Utena, and their time apart hasn't changed that.] Once you settle in, I can show you around the Gardens...er, that's what everyone calls this place.
