[Now that the automaton invasion has been mostly taken care of at the fortress, Jessica's out to catch up with people. She's been around, Bulbasaur in tow, and has settled down for lunch near the ferris wheel. The bulbasaur is occasionally tugging her toward the ride, occasionally walking toward it and looking back at her expectantly. Jessica doesn't move from her seat on a rock.]

I assure you, there is no chance whatsoever that I'm getting on that with anyone, ever. Well, other than physical threats. Sorry.

[She finishes her meal and turns on the vine.]

Hey, is it just me, or has our population kind of... dropped recently?

Well, real as anything here, I guess. [Bulbasaur approaches Bianca, looking as regal and awesome as a flowerfrog can.] Honestly, I'd never seen any pokemon before I came here. They're pretty awesome. This one just decided to follow me home, I guess.

[Pats Bulbasaur on the head.] Yeah. She feeds off people's dreams. Don't worry, it doesn't hurt or anything, you just forget them afterwards. [Giggles and tugs on her hat.] I usually forget mine anyway, so it's better if Munna gets some use out of them.

You've really never seen a Pokemon before? Where did you leave before you came here? Pokemon are the best!

Hm... Well, I have met someone else here who... does something similar. I don't remember most of my dreams. It just seems like a weird... thing. [She tentatively holds a hand toward Munna.]

I came from a different world from yours. Our animals aren't as smart, mostly. Or as interesting. Though I guess if I'd come from your world, pokemon'd be less amazing to me. But yeah, I'm really glad to have found out about them. They're pretty amazing.

[Bulbasaur agrees wholeheartedly with this sentiment. And with being patted. This is one happy bulbasaur.]

I guess it might be kind of weird when you're not used to it... Munna's really sweet, so don't be scared, okay? [Munna floats over to sniff at Jess's hand and bump against it friendlily. Don't worry, Jess, she's not hungry yet.]

I've grown up knowing about Pokemon, and I think they're really interesting! I've learned so much from travelling with them as well... I hope you get to make friends with lots of Pokemon while you're here, Jessica.

[A happy bulbasaur is the best bulbasaur, so Bianca keeps petting it.]

[She hazards a friendly pat, hoping it doesn't disrupt Munna's flight- er, float.] Yeah, I'm normally better about that kind of thing. I mean, since it's your pe- er, partner, it's probably safe to assume there's nothing too dangerous. [Barring the pokemon equivalent to junkyard dogs, at least.]

Yeah, I was going to learn some stuff about them from one of the girls here, but I think she's, uh, gone back home. Of course, there's enough people that know pokemon around that I can probably get the same info.

You said this was a "psychic" pokemon?

Well, she could be dangerous, but none of my Pokemon have ever attacked a person, or even another Pokemon outside of battle!

I'm still learning too, but I might be able to help a little... [Looks excited at the idea of teaching someone.] Who was the other girl?

Yup, psychic. There are lots of kinds of Pokemon. Like, Bulbasaur here is a grass type, I think- I'm right, aren't I? [Addressing the bulbasaur...]

Her name was Touko. She's the one that made the wheel here.

"Type," huh? Is that like, um, their Order? [Clearly everyone knows taxonomical terms! Especially people working with animals of a completely different type from Earth animals!]

We grew up together, she's one of my best friends... [Huffs and puffs her cheeks out, looking annoyed.] That's too bad, I wanted to give her something...

Yeah, it sucks. Though I have known one person who left and then got brought back. (And then disappeared again...) So... I guess you might get to see her?

Oh, no! I wouldn't want to keep Touko back- I can give her the HM later! It'd be nice to see her and Cheren, but I can wait...

What's an HM?

Cheren's a boy, so I don't think he's allowed here. He'd probably be really mad if the Queen made him come here, he's not patient at all! He'd get all grumpy. [Giggles a bit at that.]

Oh, a HM is a Hidden Machine. [Opens her satchel to bring out a tiny disk thing.] This is HM02, it has the move Fly on it! My papa gave it to me, so I- Well, he gave it to me. You can use it to teach your Pokemon a special move called Fly, it lets them carry you places.

Um- no, no, I didn't mean that! Sorry! Only flying types can learn Fly! I don't have any of mine with me, or I'd show you, but yeah...

Hypothetically, yeah.

So is it like a training manual on CD-ROM?

Kind of, but it's way faster than that. There's a few types of HMs other than Fly. Like Surf and Strength! There's TMs too, they have different moves and there's way more of them but you can't use them outside of battle.

Surf? [Jessica is getting a mental image of a bulbasaur on a surfboard. Sunglasses and swim trunks may be involved. Too cute for words.]
