[The mirror at first only shows robots marching past, destroying and trampling the Gardens as they go. Really, you might think, why did the Vine even bother? It's not exactly hard to miss the drama going on- no need for this kind of public awareness announcement.

But, see, the Vine sensed something exciting about to happen.]

[The roar of a single cannon blast; a nigh-blinding burst of light; a massive shot of bright yellow energy shoots into view from somewhere off in the surroundings, obliterating dozens of the robots. Their pieces litter the grass. Then, a small but growing spot of darkness over the busted gears and scraps of metal; the shadow of something falling out of the sky.

Mami gracefully touches down into sight of the mirror, fully transformed and for once not smiling. Unaware that the Vine is recording her, she summons a dozen muskets from thin air with a sweep of her hand. They remain hovering there, by her side, as her cold gaze takes in the damage the robots caused.

It's a very different Mami Tomoe than most in the Gardens know.]

They just won't stop, hmm....? Then neither will I.

... I never really thought about it before.

It's not really something that bears thinking about, anyway. There are times when I wish I hadn't.

It's not a pleasant thought... is it?

Sometimes it's not. So many girls who have to live this kind of life- always fighting and risking their lives, probably all alone.

[She summons another batch of guns, and in her voice is a hope she's doesn't really feel. Mami can't show a loss of heart in front of her junior, after all.]

...but sometimes it can also be inspiring. Even if, like some, their wish was selfish- or they fight selfishly -they still save innocent people from a horrible fate. They destroy monsters and make the world just a little bit better.

[Various thoughts fill Sayaka. Thoughts such as "even those that sacrifice innocent people?" "what about the people that are not innocent?" and others. But she keeps those down. No need to say things like that to Mami-san.]

... Is destroying them the only way to help?

No, but it's the easiest thing those like us can do; sometimes we'll be too late to prevent a suicide or murder, but the Witch at least will be taken care of.

We won't really be remembered by those we save, so it's not as if we can give them counsel or closure to the problems that made them easy prey in the first place.

What kind of problems would those be...?

Depression, trauma, loneliness....everything that makes people fall into despair.

[But... Hitomi was caught under a witch before. Was she depressed? Lonely? Did she react badly to Madoka and herself doing things without her? If she wanted to end it all, should she have let her- no that's a bad thought, let's not continue that one.]
