It would depend on the form of blackmail. I am not sure there is much I would worry about here. Are there any details you can share?

I have not had much experience with blackmail, admittedly.

I think if I had some [pause] sensitive material used against me, I would probably go along with many things. Although I would be interested in finding a way to get the material away from the blackmailer.

I am not sure that information is very useful here. Unless there are other people who know you or her very well, I think it is a he said she said kind of thing.

Okay, no problem. I've got a three step plan for dealing with blackmailing.

Step one: decide if you give a shit about the stuff they've got on you. What's the repercussion gonna be? If it's nothing too bad, tell them to get fucked.

Step two: take them out, if possible. Serves them right. Nobody likes a pussy little blackmailer.

Step three: if taking them out's not possible, get something on them and blackmail them right back.

Well, I've never been victimized by a blackmailer, but if I were to be, I'd like to think I'd refuse to cooperate. Instead, I'd be as honest as I possibly could with the people in my life, telling them whatever secret the blackmailer had to hold over me. I'd like to think my friends would stand by me. However, if knowing your secret causes some friends to desert you, you're still better off having told the truth-- either way, you'll know where you stand.

Are you really so sure of that? If the people in this place are the "all", I hardly think so. There seem to be-- all types here. I think you'd retain or maybe even make a few friends at least. The main thing is, they would know you better, and therefore be better friends.

I don't mean to come off all playground diplomacy, but really, honesty is the only really feasible way to gain the upper hand in this situation. In my opinion.

Well, in the situation you've outlined, it certainly seems like the best policy. [She smiles.] As for being the better person, I suppose there is a hint of that sort of satisfaction-- though being a better person than your traditional blackmailer isn't a hard thing, really.

If you don't mind my asking, what exactly does your blackmailer hope to extort from you? Money isn't the point, surely.

It depends on what the blackmail is about. If it's not something I cared about, I would punch the stupid weakling for getting cocky and thinking something like that would affect me. If it's something I cared about, I would cut out the person's tongue and take their hands off. Problem solved.
