Materia 004 [accidental video; video; action]
[The Vine seems to think that what Sephiroth is doing is interesting enough to start transmitting. She is turned away from the mirror. Standing in a loose and easy stance, she gestures with one hand. Suddenly, the air around her fills with a shower of what appear to be pies. Small and dense, a few of them strike Sephiroth's head and pauldrons. In a cascade of crumbs, they harmlessly bounce off of her and onto the ground. Sephiroth takes a step back, bewildered, and the Vine stops recording.
When it starts recording again, several minutes later, Sephiroth is aware of it, addressing the Vine in her usual calm way. She is holding three spherical objects.]
Hello. This is Sephiroth. Using the magic soil that can be found here, I attempted to make some items from my world known as Materia, and my experiment had--mixed results.
[Sephiroth makes a hand motion with one of the spheres, and as she does so, a dazzling rainbow shoots out. It seems to have no end, spanning the gardens with a bow of beautiful colors for a bright few moments.]
This is Rainbow Materia.
[Sephiroth repeats her earlier move, using another sphere. A few feet in front of her, a tree springs up from the ground. It grows very rapidly, until it is more than six feet tall, at which point it puts out leaves, then buds, then bursts into bloom. The flowers are pink and purple, and they expel puffs of glitter as they open.]
This is Tree Materia.
[She considers the third sphere, but makes no move to use it.]
This last one is Pie Materia. [Pause.] It creates a rain of pies. [She nods toward the ground, where one can see a liberal scattering of pies. A trace of annoyance can be detected in her voice and expression.]
These are all quite useless to me. If anyone so desires, I'd be happy to give you one of these materia and instruct you in its use.
[[OOC: Sephiroth has one each of the following Materia: Rainbow, Tree, and Pie. They won't level up, and they only behave as demonstrated. If anyone wants one, they're first come, first serve! Or feel free to just bug Sephiroth in general. (If she has any other Materia, she's not saying.)]]

Hi!
[action]
I didn't ask your name before.
[action]
Oh! I'm Yamame Kurodani. You said you're Sephiroth, right?
[action]
To use this Materia, you have to hold it--it's better if it's touching your skin. [The Garden-warped Materia behave differently than ordinary Materia, but she thinks she understands them well enough.] Then focus your attention on it and the energy inside. You should be able to sense it. It's almost like feeling a heartbeat in a living body.
[action]
[action]
Now, continue to focus on that feeling. Gather your concentration there. When you do, you should feel the "heartbeat" intensify in response.
When that happens--shift your focus outward, forcefully, where you want the rainbow to go.
[action]
—hah!
[...And nothing happens. Yamame pauses for a few moments to be sure, and then...just kind of flails around, trying to get the materia to work like it's supposed to.]
Hah—hah—hah—!
[action]
If it doesn't work right away, be patient and try again. You need to focus, if you haven't used Materia before.
Do you sense the power within at all?
[action]
[She's obviously a little discouraged, to say the least. Still, she stops flailing around and focuses on the Materia again.]
[action]
That's a good sign.
Have you used magic before, Yamame?
[action]
[action]
What is danmaku?
[action]
[She turns away from Sephiroth, raising a hand over her head. Then, a circle of bullets (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=SmTGAKR3snk#t=117s) bursts out around her, drifting outward before twisting to home in on a single target—a tree off in the distance. As they connect, there's a dull thudding sound, each of the bullets doing a bit of blunt force damage.]
[action]
How interesting. Do you use this danmaku to battle on your world?
[action]
[action] sorry I'm so slow!
Interesting.
Perhaps you can use the Materia in the same way. Can you focus on it and cast out, as you do with your danmaku?
[action]
[She settles down and focuses on the Materia again, closing her eyes and trying to focus all of her attention on that little pulse inside the object. She feels it intensify, and when she does, she focuses on casting it outward, once again mimicking the motion Sephiroth had made when she had cast it herself. This time, it works, a brilliant rainbow springing forth and streaking through the sky.]
Ah—! I did it!
[action]
Well done. Perhaps Materia are like danmaku in some small way.
