[ It's the afternoon when Subaru appears on the vine. She is seated on the edge of an open door facing outside the background obviously a traditional Japanese style building that long-term residents will recognize. The young woman is wearing a plain t-shirt and shorts, though she looks like she's been rolling around in the dirt. Her gaze is far away, like she didn't notice the mirror creeping up on her. Truth is, she just forgot about it in the brief few moments it took to coax it into unfurling for her. ]

...ah! Hi there. [ A smile. ] It's Subaru. I've been sort of keeping to myself lately since the incident with the sky pirates so I wanted to apologize to everyone, and see how you're all doing. [ It feels to her like she knows most of the Gardens by now, or has at least casually spoken with them all once or twice. That's almost as good as becoming her friend, in most cases. ]

I wanted to report on what I've been busy with! The roof of the inn is completely restored, now, so no more weird leaks or sudden noise from the wind. I'm also almost done building the swimming pool out back, but I'm still working on a pump and filter so that it won't end up looking like a murky pond after a few weeks, eheh...

[ Then her eyes are downcast, which does not go with her otherwise enthusiastic expression. ] I also... wanted to make a note that all the other rooms here are free, now, except my own. [ She pauses, looking over her shoulder into the building. ] I've been meaning to say something about it, but Vivio has been gone for some time. [ There is a sad smile there for that, but it's hard to tell with her turned away like that. ] I'm sure she's back at home, now, with her two mamas. ... I can't say I know what Suruga Kanbaru has gone home to, but I think it's the same for her. Her room was empty this morning except for the same kind of flower petals I swept away when Vivio disappeared.

[ After another pause, she turns back to the mirror, smiling a little easier even if it is a strain on her. ] So please, feel free to come visit at any time. You won't be a bother to me at all, and you can use any of the facilities here at your convenience. The onsen, the training mats in the corner rooms, the futons... even the kitchen and the ice cream maker! [ A wave. ] I think I'm going to go enjoy a cold treat right now, so I'll see you all later!

[ Shaking her head. ] I'll be done cleaning up soon. Then I just need to make myself presentable, eheh. [ Working in a hole in the ground does not leave her in the best shape. ]

Oh! You're working at the shrine, too? With Reimu and Sanae? If that's the case, you can get there by—[ Following these handy directions! Though Subaru doesn't always use any actual paths, she knows that route well enough. ]

Yeah, with Miss Hakurei - I mean, I haven't met Miss Sanae yet, but I'm sure I will soon.

[She listens attentively to the handy directions, nodding.] I think I've seen your inn before, if that's where it is. I can find it. I'll be there in just a bit, Miss Subaru. And thank you for inviting me!

[With a polite bow, she'll leave the vines then and there and set out.]

You can't miss it! [ She idly hopes the kid doesn't pick up any odd habits from Reimu, but keeps that to herself. ] I'll be waiting. [ She gives a wave to the vine and then goes off to clean up just as she said she would. Her showers aren't terribly long and, when she's done, she's going to slip into a pale blue yukata and slippers and get the machine prepped in the kitchen. ]

[And, a little while later, she'll hear a knock at the front door, and a call of "Hello!"

Opening the door will reveal Chihiro, carrying several peaces in her shirt, and still with a dust rag tied over her head. She smiles happily at Subaru when the door is finally opened, before nodding down at the fruit.]

Are these okay?

[ Subaru jogs to the door at the sound, sliding it open quickly. ] Ah, there you are! [ She beams. ] They look great. Come on in! The kitchen is just at the end of the hall. [ After closing the door, she hustles on ahead to finish the rest of the preparations. ]

[And Chihiro will just waddle along behind trying not to spill the peaches out of her shirt.]

This is a really nice inn! Did you make it?

Nope! As far as I know it's been here long before I arrived. I just moved in because, at the time, several of my friends stayed here. [ She looks in on an empty room as the pass the doorway. ] I'm just by myself, for now.

...and you really want to stay?

[Living all by yourself in a big, empty house...it sounds like a nightmare, to Chihiro.]

Do you have to?

Mm, I'm used to being here. Used to keeping it clean and fixing it up. [ Subaru chuckles. ] I've got some other arrangements made, but right now, I'm not really in a hurry to leave. I made a lot of memories here, after all!

[ She ducks into the doorway leading to the kitchen. There sits the ice cream machine on its own counter, all big and clunky and awkward. It looks more like some exaggerated steampunk contraption than your average household appliance. All the extra ingredients are on the counter beside it. ]

I live in the shrine, with Miss Hakurei.

There's a lot of people there, but I haven't really talked to them. I don't think I've even seen all of them, yet.

[...it sounds silly, compared to Subaru. She's lucky not to have to live alone. She should get to know the people who are letting her live there, at least.

Chihiro is tall enough to dump all the fruit out on the counter beside the other ingredients, but she still pulls a couple of chairs over for her and Subaru. Judging by the look of the thing, this is going to take a bit of work.]

I only know Reimu and Sanae, and... I think there's one or two others who live there, right? It's been a while since I visited. [ Not since the sleepover where she THOROUGHLY embarrassed herself with that personality change. Ugh. What a bad week that was... ]

[ As she talks, she pulls over a bowl, and starts to line peaches up next to a cutting board. ] Can you get those aprons? [ She points to hooks on the wall by the oven. The smaller one was Vivio's and should fit the girl just fine. ]

[Chihiro slides down off her chair and scurries off to the get the aprons. She pauses long enough to toss on the smaller one and try to tie it in place, before bringing the second one back to Subaru.]

You can come and visit me. I mean, I don't have an ice cream maker, but maybe I could make you some bean buns.

I'd like that. [ She takes the apron. ] Thank you, um... [ Subaru chuckles. ] I don't think I asked your name, yet.

You didn't?

[Huh. Wow. But, after recovering from her mild shock, Chihiro offers her hand.]

My name is Chihiro.

Um...did I ask your name?

It must have slipped my mind. [ She smiles and gives the girl a gentle handshake. ] Nice to meet you, Chihiro. I'm Subaru. [ A very Japanese name for a young woman who doesn't look very Japanese at all. ] I gave it earlier, to everyone, so that's probably what happened. Don't worry about it.

Well, I guess if you run an inn, everyone should know your name.

[...Chihiro frowns thoughtfully as something apparently comes to her.] Subaru's a nice name. Does your inn have a name?

[ She lets Chihiro help with mixing up the cream as she, herself, deftly skins and dices up the peaches to be smashed. ] Hmm, now that I think about it, no one's ever given it a name before. I just call it "the inn" or sometimes "the onsen" since that's what everyone really visits for.

[Chihiro sets to work with mixing with gusto, stirring quickly even as she talks.] You could call it "The Inn with the Onsen". That way, everyone knows there is one. I didn't know this place had an onsen, until you mentioned it. I just knew about the shrine.

[She leans over a bit to check on Subaru's progress with the peaches before adding:] There's a lot of Japan here.

[ ...maybe her announcement was too long. Subaru chuckles. ] That would be one way. I could even put up some signs!

[ A little laugh. ] There really is. It's interesting to think about. I've only been to Earth once, but I've always enjoyed hearing about Japan since there are many cultural influences from there on Mid-Childa.

[Maybe a bit. In school, Chihiro is usually That Child, the one who stares out the window and misses half a lecture.]

Mid-Childa? I've never heard of there. Where is it?

[Not that she was ever the greatest at geography, either. At least in terms of other countries.]

[ A giggle. ] Most people haven't. In fact, I'm the only one here from there anymore...

[ She points up. ] It's another planet. I can't show you from here, except in pictures, but it's a very advanced world even if it's not all that different from Earth.
