[ So much to think about, and the clouds are no escape for your fine Queen today.

[ The mirror is recording as the Queen stands at the shoreline, the long stretch of the dunes at her back, the sheer plane of water before her. And overhead the clouds are still flashing with lightning, even as the serpent's bones rain down and warriors close in upon the ship. The storms are banished first, brushed aside with nothing more than an impatient motion. The ship will have to come down next, and she reaches upwards, pausing for only a moment when the High Priestess appears, her feet wet when the tide rolls in, and her head shaded beneath a paper parasol. She says something that can't be heard and the Queen nods distractedly, beginning then to reel down the Labrys as if she has caught it round with a lasso. The Pirate Queen appears at the rails, looking startled and irritated, calling out gruffly,]

Ready to open your mouth, woman?

[ Her majesty sighs, stating very deliberately, ] We do need to talk, yes.

[ The ship hits the ground with a spray of sand and sea, but the gangplank is lowered, and the Queen steps onto the ship, leaving the High Priestess standing at the edge of the tide. A squadron of large brown bears take up positions around the site. The Warrior Princess does not take long in joining them, her face cut and streaked with ash and blood. She does not take her eyes off of the ship, not even for a moment.

When the Queen reappears to see her there, she smiles bashfully. ]

High Priestess, you still have those bottled little folk, don't you, my dear?

[ Whatever the expression on the High Priestess' face, it is not pleasure, but she inclines her head obediently. Soon enough, a cat can be seen walking slowly down the beach, a rope in its mouth that is tied to a floating crate. The faeries inside rattle in their bottles, lights flashing within.

The Pirate Queen crows something rude and self-aggrandizing from the rails, grinning, and the damsels are led up from below deck by an honor guard of battered skeletons. The Queen opens her arms to them. ]

Darlings! I'm so glad to see you safe!

[ The Damsel goes to her, if no one else, and even she has soon moved on, hurrying across the sands to greet the Warrior Princess with a hug that is not returned.

The gangplank of the Labrys recedes when the crate is safely onboard, and though the ship does not seem to be moving, some of the skeletons wave cheerfully from the decks, giggling in that eerie way of theirs. ]

WHAT? Are you ok? You didn't get too hurt did ya? You look, ok, but...

[Oh, right, HER wounds].

Heh, yeah, might be a good idea! I'm kinda in a lot of pain.

I'm fine, really. Dizzy caught me, and Mach Caliber was only out for a short while. [ Long enough for everyone to get a massive head start on taking out that monster. ]

I don't think there's any doubt. Getting the water here and sand in those wounds is a bad idea. [ Subaru turns around and crouches a bit, hands back and gesturing for Fionna to climb on in the classic piggy-back position. ] Hop on! I'll take you to the bath for now. We can get you cleaned, wrapped, and you can borrow some clothes. It won't take me long.

Oh good man! I was scared you got really hurt!

[That was good, she was worried].

Thanks. Oh! Is Amamiya ok? Did you see her?!

[ Shaking her head, she waits for Fionna to get settled, or if she is even going to do so in the first place. ] Not recently. But I know if anyone was seriously hurt, there are... snakes around. To take care of any casualties. [ She doesn't say it casually, and even in that moment she feels unsteady. ] But I don't think anyone was that bad off.

I can ask Vivio to look for her.

CASUALTIES?? [Now Fionna is alerted, looking a pale]. Ok, forget my junk! I gotta know that she's ok! What if something happened to her, like she's all crushed somewhere?

{already starting to pull out her sword, though wincing]. I gotta find her!

Fionna! [ Turning, she reaches out to ease the girl's sword arm. ] Look, the fighting is over. Please, calm down. If you push yourself, that's going to just end up being another person hurt and I can't watch that.

[ She brings up her other, heavier hand. ] Let's look, then. I'll tell Vivio to ask around and the two of us, together, can take a look from overhead. Okay?

[Fionna opened her mouth to say something, then closed it. If cake was here, she'd be giving her THE LOOK, and since when did she go and cause trouble for Subaru anyway?

[She sighed.] Ok Subaru, sorry for flippin' on you. We can go look. I just...she...you know, I just wanna make sure everyone's all right.

[Bad recovery].

[ That hand rested on her friend's shoulder. ] I know. I do, too. And it's just a fact that we're not the only ones looking out for others, as much as I know we both want to do everything on our own. [ They are of like minds in a crisis, that's for certain. It's just that Subaru has the experience of dealing with more fires and floods and battles than she would want anyone else to have to have witnessed. ]

Now, hop on. I'll communicate with Vivio right now, and Mach Caliber will keep an eye out, too.

[Fionna was a ball of worry and bothered, but she relented. It was clear she had a crush, albeit a older sister crush, on Subary, and as a result understood what she was saying. Being stubborn and fighting would only mean she was going to get herself hurt quicker, and no one needed that].

Fine. [She hopped on]. Is Katina Ok?

[ One quick telepathic conversation exchange later, Subaru nods. ] Okay, Vivio's on the case!

[ Wing Road summoned, she tightens her grip on Fionna's legs and begins to drive, sticking to a careful pace and no sudden dips or turns. A dozen or so meters high should give them a good vantage point around the ship and in the water. ] Mm! She's okay. She's a skilled pilot, so avoiding getting shot at was a piece of cake for her. [ Not to mention Subaru's barriers and the breaking of any chains before they could latch onto the flying ship. ]

[Fionna smiled]. Good! I was hoping she didn't get too banged up by anything back there! Maybe it was only me and Akiha that were unlucky! Did you see if anyone else needed help?

[Fionna was great at fighting, but not so much on actually taking care of herself]. Hey wait, was Kris in the fight?

Everyone else seems to have things under control. [ Shaking her head briefly, before looking down the other side of the track. ] I didn't see her until after the fight. She's taking care of Akiha now, back at the mansion.

Oh that's good. I didn't want her gettin' hurt.

[She paused]. Thanks, Subaru. I know you said you're not one, but you're a total superhero right now!

[ With a smile in her voice. ] You don't have to thank me, Fionna. I'm just glad that I can do something, even if I'd rather wish this sort of Jon wasn't necessary. You fought, too, so don't go without giving yourself credit!

[Smiles a little]. I know, but you do it in style, so it looks cooler automatically!

But thanks, like you, I just wanted to make sure that the other girls were ok.

And you did that in your own way, and with your own style. [ Subaru is not the type to accept compliments because she genuinely doesn't think herself better than others, or as anything special. There may be times she's stronger, but even then, it isn't like she does this for the praise. ]

Yeah, but you did too, and its flippin' amazing!

[Fionna knew Subaru never thought of herself as different. But she DID think the girl should be appreciated for all she did].

So that's your costume?!

Ahaha, well... [ Shifting her grip again as they take a corner at this leisurely pace. ]

Mm! It's called my "Barrier Jacket". It might feel like cloth, but it's actually made of magical energy, or "mana". It weaves different layers of barriers and shields together to protect the wearer. Most magic users have it in some type or another, since the protection is quite strong.

That. Is. So. AWESOME.

[Also a little over her head. She didn't really get everything when it came to magic].

Do you have a special kind of magic it lets you do?

Hmm, there are few different styles of magic out there, but all the ones I've encountered are similar in terms of what our source of mana is, and what we can do with it. It all comes down to skill... kind of like if you have someone that fights with swords — like you — or with their hands and feet like me. We both use our bodies, just in different ways!

Well I think that's cool, even though I don't really know what mana is or anything like that. The world is just full of stuff though, isn't it? I totally wanna learn more about this!

Um. Is there anything that heals stuff though? I'm feelin' kinda woozy.

Hehe, well I don't mind telling you what I know, or showing you a little, but only those who have the potential already can actually learn to do anything with it. [ So Fionna shouldn't get her hopes up. It's not like she learned this from a book! ]

Hmm, there is, but I'm not trained at all in using that kind of magic. [ Her self-healing systems never made it necessary. ] Well, I don't see Amamiya anywhere, but Vivio is still looking. She'll take care of her when she finds her, so let me take care of you first, okay?

[Oh, Fionna wasn't going to: she'd had magic once, she knew unless you actually WERE magic you weren't going to keep it].

Ok. [Nods, holding onto her tighter]. Ugh, my head is swimmin'.

[ Glad to not hear any more resistance, she changes their path to head back toward the inn. ] Just leave it to me. We'll get you cleaned up, bandaged up, and resting up. Before you know it, you'll be good as new!

[Smiles weakly]. Thanks, Subaru. You'll...always be one of the best people I know here...

[eyes starting to close].
