[Good morning, Garden. Zinc is in the small rectangular courtyard of her little white house. She has a basket at her hip, plucking down the strange little fruits from its branches. They look like apples, but you may remember that's not quite right.

When she realizes she has the vines attention she pauses, looking pensive for a moment.]

Where have the birds gone?

[She is up frequently in the early morning, she is used to hearing them outside. She had even made them feeders, but they are all empty. She gazes at them sadly.]

[Her lower lip swells, not quite sulking but... she looks up at the trees again.]

It is. But... the Queen hasn't said anything.

She's a little slow on the draw sometimes. Hopefully it's not as bad as the feeling I'm getting.

Probably. We should get ready for the worst.

[She considers this. She's... really not a fighter.]

I could store food...

[She really wants to be helpful, ok.]

Anything would help, at least a little.

[She knows Larry just said it, but if it wasn't obvious already, Zinc is a tad insecure even on the best of days.]

We probably don't need it, but the one time we don't have any food stored away is going to be the time we get trapped inside.

[Food and purified water, Zinc can see it already. She'll make a nice big cache.]

I can do that!

[gun_cata]

Good, good. Just make sure it's stuff that can last, and then if nothing happens we can either keep it in reserve or eat it later.

[jemerite]

[Praise. She doesn't get enough of that, and it swells her spirits.]

Maybe someone knows, about canning.

[She already freezes the enormous amounts of meat Gavril brings...]

I was just thinking either that or jarring. We'd have to lug back a load of dirt, but it can't be that hard.

Jessica would help...

[...Except Zinc hasn't seen her because she has been kidnapped...]

She's probably not the only one. At least... I'd think not? I don't actually know how many people out there can do that kind of thing.

People don't... do it by hand, anymore. Maybe in one of the other worlds.

Oh, right. Someone from a more... old-fashioned society. It'd be a lot more important for them to know.

I'm not sure who comes from the right background though. We've got a lot of adventurous types here.

Yeah, yeah. I've seen the worst of the weirdness, and yet some of it still manages to freak me out.
