[ The mirror isn't on for even a moment before crying can be heard. It's not coming from the blonde girl with the inordinately large eyebrows, either. No, the sounds are coming from the large egg cradled in her arms, the painted face on its shell drawn to further illustrate its distress. ]

Oh no! What am I going to do? [ The young girl is trying her best to be reassuring and soothing to the little thing, but it will have none of it! This behavior is slowly eating away at Mugi's calm demeanor. ] There, there. No need to cry~. I'm sure we can find your "mama", somehow.

[ She shifts in place, having retrieved her garments moments earlier but not yet changed out of the tell-tale slip given to newcomers in the Gardens.

Mugi is giving the egg her full attention, and has not yet noticed the Vine that was broadcasting the scene. ] This is quite a dilemma... and since when did they make trial babies out to be in this shape?

...did I? [ Shaking her head. ] No, nothing. [ She looks down at the egg, and turns it this way and that in her grip.

Did it... smile when it was turned to face the mirror? It did. ]

Well, this is certainly very strange. [ . . . ] Perhaps your grasp shifted?

I don't believe so. [ She turns it to face her; it frowns a bit.

Then back to the mirror and it smiles.

Frown.

Smile.

Frown.

Smile.

Someone is rather tired of being around with just Mugi, because it starts calling out for "mama" again; this time as "mama! there!" ] That is new...

[Blink...blink.]

Is it reacting to me?

Oh! [ She scoots over to the side so she can see the front of the egg, and the mirror, too, and sure enough, it looks pleased. ] I believe you are correct!

Do you suppose...? [ A thoughtful hum. ] Did you wake up with an egg, as well? [ That question should feel odder than it does. ]

[She shakes her head.] No, at least not any I could see.

Hmm.. [ She sits halfway facing both of them, and brings the egg up to face her at eye level. Mugi begins speaking to it with a soft, musical tone, just as she has seen many mothers do to their children. ]

Hello~. Do you see your "mama" right now? Is that who you are seeking~?

[ It seems to chirp in a pleased fashion. It'd probably nod, if it had a body with a neck. ] Then, is this your "mama"~? [ She turns the egg toward the mirror and... well, if that isn't a pleasant coo of agreement, Mugi doesn't know what it was. ] It seems to believe so!

[. . .!]

How incredibly odd. I wonder why...I've never been a mothering person...

I can't explain it. [ Said with an apologetic smile. ] But we can't just leave it like it is, can we? [ Are those... puppy dog eyes? It's not on purpose. ] Won't you please help me take care of this egg, if even for a short while? I will do the best I can!

Well, I can certainly try my best. Where might you be?

I... don't know how to describe it. [ But she does her best as she coaxes the mirror into showing her surroundings, which is roughly the area where newcomers wake up. ] Does this look familiar to you at all?

Oh! [She claps her hands.] I believe that's where we all initially wake up.

Give me a few moments.

[Eventually she floats into view, her body still transparent against the scenery.]

[ Doesn't she mean "go to sleep?" Though, in a dream, perhaps that how it is perceived here. Mugi doesn't question it, and instead nods. ] All right! I will wait here.

[ And she'll be cradling that egg and gently rocking it. It had started to cry again, but seems to calm down after a few minutes. When Mugi looks up next, it might explain that change in its demeanor, as she sees the lady approaching.

Pardon her if she stares rather speechlessly for a moment. ]

[Oh. Another who wasn't familiar with...well, it either the flying or the transparency. Either way, she probably wasn't familiar with magic or resurrection.]

Hello! I suppose I should explain myself before it becomes a nagging question: I am a bourei, a type of ghost. That is why I'm transparent at the moment.

[ It takes her a moment to process all of that, but her face showed her level of concentration covering her surprise while she paused. ] I... see.

[ Mugi then mentally smacks her own cheeks and straightens herself up. ] I'm sorry for staring. [ She bows her head. ] That was awfully rude of me.

It's quite alright. I've become used to it by now.

[She peers at the bundle in Mugi's arms.] Now, now, is this the pseudo-infant?

Even so, I want to apologize. I've just never seen a spirit for myself before! [ It was exciting, rather than frightening. ]

[ Mugi adjusts her hold on the egg. ] Yes, it is. I don't know a name or a gender, I'm afraid. [ And she sounds genuinely resentful of this. ]

Like I said, it's no problem at all. [giggle-giggle] I've heard we're quite uncommon in "normal" worlds.

[She ducks in a little closer.] It seems rather hard to tell. Perhaps we should give it a name?

If I may say so, I think it's fascinating. [ This is a pretty excellent dream. ]

Oh! Um... that would be a good idea. [ Mugi knits her thick brows together as she considers suggestions. ]

[bloomnobly]

[She only gives an amused smile in response.]

Well. What do we think it looks like? Boy or girl? Unless we want to go with a unisex name.

We could do that, um... [ She thinks about it for a moment, holding the egg up to the light as if that would help inspire her.

And then, almost literally, the light goes off above her head. ] Ah! What about "Tama"?

I was thinking "Huevo", but Tama sounds lovely on its own.

Perhaps gender ambiguity is for the best.
