1st Star [video]
[The vine has suddenly decided to tune in to its newest arrival!
... a redhead that seems to be sleeping comfortably on the ground. So comfortably that she is actually snoring and... is that drool on the side of her mouth? Yes. Yes it is.
Wait, it looks like she’s finally going to wake up!]
Don’t you worry anymore! I, Hong Meiling, will not let anything happen to this land I love!
[Or it could be that she’s decided to talk in her sleep.]
As long as I remain on guard, no harm will befall Gensokyo and its residents.
[What is she even dreaming about? Must be something pretty exciting, given how she’s raising her fist in the air. Fortunately, she wakes up before embarrassing herself any further.
She sits up, eyes half open, looking positively groggy.]
... Huh?
[Meiling finally begins to realize that something isn’t quite right.]
This isn’t the mansion. [An astounding observation.] Where is...?
Mistress? Lady Sakuya?
Where did you all go?!
[Looking more and more worried now.]
I-I wasn’t sleeping or slacking off! Honest!
[... right.]
Why am I wearing this dress?
[ooc: tags will be slower than normal for me but I shall get to them as soon as I can!]

The reflexive nature with which you resorted to that excuse is, in and of itself, telling.
[Greetings? Greetings are for wusses.]

Were it the truth, there would be no need to state it without prompting.

Because you were asleep.
[...man this will go on all day if she lets it, won't it? Better divert now.]
Have you realized your situation yet?

Ah, but if you know more, Miss Patchouli, I'd really like to hear it!

First, let us begin with what you do know; I'll not waste my time on reiteration. From there, I will fill in what dark areas I am able.

So far, it seems that I'm a place called "The Gardens" run by this... Queen of Hearts?
It doesn't seem like leaving is going to be that easy.

Accurate so far. To continue:
It appears that her direct contact with her captives is minimal; ergo, I must surmise that either she has many diversions, and only a small amount of time to spare for each, or that her physical form is vulnerable, and she wishes to limit the windows of opportunity during which she might be attacked.
The animals of this place are her cronies. They are intelligent - for a given value of intellect, of course - and generally appear to wish to aid us in mundane tasks... although I have no doubt that they also report on our actions to the queen.
Her stated purpose in our kidnapping is to promote romantic relationships, as moronic as that might sound. I do not believe it for a moment, of course, but I cannot categorically disprove it as of yet, so I must accept it as a possibility.
In the far reaches of this realm, one can find a magic-rich soil. It seems to be psychoreactive, and can mold itself into whatever shape we might desire. Many use it to create dwellings for themselves... although there are limitations to what it can create. Those specifics are largely immaterial, though, so unless you have a specific need to know, I will leave it there.
There are apartments available, of the queen's design... however, I have heard that even those less perceptive than I get a bad feeling from them. I cannot recommend them.
I've acquired housing with Alice, and... [...she sighs, and makes a face.] ...you will require shelter, as well.

Just as would be expected of you!

Do you have any recommendations on where I could stay, Miss Patchouli? I would like it to be as close to you as possible. In the absence of Lady Sakuya and the Mistress, it's my duty to make sure nothing happens to you!

Regrettably, all I have told you is truthful, at least as far as the available evidence - including anecdotal evidence from those whose residency has been more... long-term.
[...she frowns further at the question of housing, but-!]
...regrettably, the room I am using was Alice's last. However... [She pauses for a long moment; she can't just leave Meiling to her own devices, after all; the durned fool might well end up sleeping on the ground! And she'd been wanting a pack mule, anyway, so...] ...it is certainly large enough for two, if she is amicable to the idea.

A-Ah, but let's save the rest for later, okay? It sounds like there's a lot more for me to know about this!
