Keep Hanging on

Characters: Fionna, anyone
Date: 2/7, Night
Summary: Totally beat up, Fionna does her best to maintain.
Warnings: bleeding, pain, woobiness.

Her leg was burning, her neck still had blood flowing freely, and she could barely stand. But she wouldn't fall, she would NOT fall right now. She had been beaten, beaten and cut and hurt harder than she had ever been before, and Akiha had been right: she underestimated her.

And she'd been called weak, little girl, pathetic.

Useless.

"NO!" Fionna said aloud, wincing. "Not doing it man! I am a hero! I just...need to get my stuff taking care of. I just...need to get better."

Is the little princess ok? You can quit anytime, just wear a dress and work the court as a maid.

"I'm an adventurer! I'm not going anywhere!"

"Here. Let me help you." Sephiroth put a hand out to steady her.

"You shouldn't be standing when you're injured like this. I can heal you, but you'll need to sit and rest."

Fionna took the hand. It was just a testament to this place that a stranger would come and help her, although a part of her hoped it was someone she knew. This was not because she wasn't grateful, but because she was feeling such an onslaught of emotions right now she didn't know what to do with herself.

"I was...just trying to get home," she said dully, which made little sense. The tree fort had been home for a short time, before she had driven her family out, so where was home? Amimiya's? No, she hadn't been trying for there: she had just been trying to run away from being killed.

"Have they stopped the vampire yet?"

"I'm Sephiroth. We met once before, briefly." She nodded. "I'll help you get home, once you're healed." She paused. Clearly, Fionna wasn't thinking clearly. "I have healing magic. I'll use it, with your permission."

Sephiroth considered the latter question carefully. "I know there is someone who's been attacking people, but they leave no trace, so I don't believe they've been stopped. I'll try to look for them."

"Huh? Oh...oh yeah," Fionna mumbled, still feeling a little weak. "Sorry, I'm still kinda light on my feet right now. But yeah, healing would be good. It'd be stupid to keep going on: I feel like I could die, or go unconscious."

She looked aggravated. "I know who it is, I just don't know her name. Not that it matters: I bet the Queen doesn't have a way to give a trial. Anyway, I'm not even sure what was going on with that gi..."

She swooned here though: the blood loss was starting to get to her.

Sephiroth moved quickly to hold her up, then cast a healing spell. The green magic washed over Fionna, sparkling, gathering around the broken skin, mending it. Her magic was effective here. She was silent for a few moments, waiting for the spell to work, before she spoke again.

"The Queen does punish people. She has a prison for them, where they are confined if they harm others, but she must be aware of their actions."

Fionna was glad for the pick me up: unlike some people, she had no problem letting magic do its thing, especially when she had taken a spill as bad as she had today. She was just glad she felt less like dying now.

"In that case, Ahika is not gonna go there. I could tell it wasn't her. She's a big butt, but this side of her was just twisted, killing animals for being in her way and being cruel because she wanted to put people in their place. It was scary. I was glad I knew that incantation or she might have drained me dry."

Sephiroth nodded. The magic faded. Cure spells were invaluable in situations like these.

"The Queen doesn't always care whether it's fair, but it's difficult to tell what she'll do in any particular instance." She paused. "Akiha, you said? I've met her. Yes, she didn't seem violent in that way. You think something happened to change her?"

"Yeah," Fionna said. "She already seemed like a spoiled jerky girl, but that was real different from what happened to me today. She wanted to honestly kill me, and if I didn't have that incantation, she might have. Her hair was all red and everything."

"I've heard of such things happening before. People's natures changing. It could be one of the Queen's curses, or something else caused by the Gardens in some way." Akiha hadn't seemed like a malicious person, and even though she had been here some time, there'd been no problems with her in the past.

Something else Fionna said strikes her as interesting. "What incantation?"

"Nah man, I don't think so," Fionna said. "I've heard a lot about the curses that the Quen does, and it wouldn't make sense she do something to hurt the girls here, right? I think its something in that Akiha girl. It may have been an accident, but it still happened."

Oh yeah, the incantation. Fionna said the words, rubbing her shoulder. "Good thing I remembered that. I think she might have killed me."
