All right, listen up! [ When the mirror unfolds, it reveals an excited Haruhi. Hands on her hips, and a big grin in place, she is set just before a mistletoe. Next to her is the sign, "A surprise will come if all the berries fall!" She points directly at it. ] We're not gonna find out the surprise if we don't all work together! There's too many around, so we have to pool together. Find out what makes them fall and keep doing it until we've got them all. Don't stop until they're all down--no sleep or breaks at all! It might be a portal to some strange land, or a giant fire breathing dragon or, or, or something really, totally, completely mind-bendingly awesome! Oooh, this suspense is gonna kill me! Hurry up, hurry up!

[ The mirror goes black after that, but for the entirety of the event, Haruhi is around clusters of mistletoe, pointing it out excitedly to anyone who'll listen. She really wants that surprise.

[ She's not used to this -- actual confrontation, but she can handle it. Most people are too scared to stand up to her, usually, but it's not like she was actually... being mean. Right? She was just stating a fact. ]

You said 'a lion's share', which implies you know from experience you can make a lot of berries fall down. Berries aren't all in the same mistletoe and they're spread all around, so if you made more than a few fall, it means you've kissed someone in several places, or more than one person. You've 'gone around the block', literally. It's just a figure of speech.

[Her hands roll into fists at her sides, all her frustration and confusion bubbling to the surface to fuel this altercation. It's not Haruhi's fault, not really - and usually, Mami could handle the other girl's attitude. She could deflect the petty annoyances it would invoke, her poise never slipping. But Mami's head is still swimming with the rush brought on by Utena's kisses, the strange feelings that have been haunting her for days now made almost unbearable, and she needs some sort of release. Haruhi just happened to be an all too tempting target.

This will undoubtedly be something that Mami regrets, but not for the moment.]

It's not so simple as that. So don't...don't try to imply things like that about me - you wouldn't understand.

[Her hand snakes out to curl into Haruhi's collar; Mami's eyes are frozen over. She trembles slightly in her misplaced anger.]

Learn some tact, okay? I recommend it.

Thanks. I guess. [ Admittedly, she can see where the problem is. She just doesn't want to acknowledge it. That would mean she was in the wrong, and admitting you're in the wrong -- it's an ego thing. You apologize and you mean it or you don't. Whether or not Haruhi would mean it doesn't matter, she doesn't want to bruise her pride. It's why she even bothers continuing to force this 'excitement' on the others in the Gardens. She doesn't want to admit this... event of sorts, however mysterious, isn't very fun.

She leans back on the balls of her feet. ]

You can step away now.

[She deliberately holds Haruhi's gaze for a few tense moments longer, swallows the urge to give the other girl a rough shake, before releasing the death grip on her shirt. Mami turns to leave, more than ready to walk off in haughty silence-

-but instead smacks directly into the same invisible wall that had trapped her and Utena earlier.]

-ow! What...? [And then in a low, horrified voice under her breath:] Oh, no....

[ She really, really doesn't think this girl would mess with her, not even for just a second. She had seemed pretty pissed off, and was willing to stand up to her. That's worth some respect, at least. ]

... Don't tell me. The stupid berries or mistletoe or whatever make an invisible wall.

[Mami lets out a frustrated breath through her nose, an irritated huff. She crosses her arms in a (ultimately worthless) self-protective gesture.]

Yes, that's indeed the case. I can't believe I didn't- [notice, she didn't notice, and how many times had this already happened to her? ah, but that's a dangerous train of thought...] -well, that's how it works, I'm afraid. The Queen must be pretty pleased with herself for coming up with such a trap.

Pleased?! This is so predictable! What a disappointment. A total disappointment. This is just annoying. [ Her arms are folded, too. She knows the only way she's getting out of this is kind of unfavorable, and from the look of it, the same can be said for Mami. This is disappointing. ]

Stupid Queen. [ That, however, is mumbled more to herself than anything. ]

[She bites her lower lip, almost hard enough to draw blood, and turns back to regard Haruhi. Her face is set with a bitter kind of determination.]

We might as well get it over with, right?

I guess sitting here and hoping it'll go away in an hour or something isn't an option, then?

It's not, because it won't. [...] I had to learn that the hard way. And....somehow I doubt that either of us wants to freeze here out of pure stubbornness.

Yeah, that would probably suck, I guess. [ ... ] Well, fine, but this doesn't mean anything! I just want to get away from her, got it? [ geez!!! well it doesn't but she's defensive anyway ]

Of course it doesn't mean anything. [She deflects the defensiveness with a lofty shake of her head, taking a step forward to reluctantly shorten the distance between them.] Thankfully, at least that's not a requirement.

...are you ready?

[ Ready? You're kind of a stranger, lady, she doesn't know you and doesn't even know if your brush your teeth-- something she almost asks about but decides not to, because even Haruhi knows rude is rude. Well, at least her teeth look white enough, which is pleasant enough. Kissing is kind of an awkward thing to begin with, and standing here, arms crossed and a defensive expression set in place likely wasn't helping it. ]

Yeah, yeah, I got it.

[ Haruhi takes a step forward, so that there's only centimeters between her and the blonde. Close enough, she thinks sarcastically, and the... hands on her shoulders? She tries that, and... No, that feels awkward and Mami is a few inch taller, to begin with so this just looks stupid, probably. Waist would be way too privacy invading so she doesn't even go there. She's already blushing, partially because this is annoying and partially because this is awkward. There might be 00.01% she is actually embarrassed, but she wouldn't admit it to begin with.

... ]

... This is taking too long!

[ Hands still on Mami's shoulders, she very much unceremoniously smashes her face into her's in some semblance of a kiss. ]

[Mami merely waits, eyebrows raised in a sardonic arch, as Haruhi goes through the motions of attempting to begin. She spends the time withdrawing emotionally - shutting down her annoyance, her frustration and anger, all feelings that are as misplaced as they are unnecessary, here.

Mami winces when their mouths crash together, feeling the hard pressure of Haruhi's lips and teeth - there's nothing gentle or sweet about this, a thing Mami is dimly, irrationally grateful for. Her hands come up to grip the other girl's shoulders in turn and firmly push her off once the required few moments have passed.

Her cheeks have colored slightly, but otherwise Mami looks unfazed.]

That should do it, I think.
