[Claire is taking a break from the fair for a bit, and after a while nudged the Vine and asked a cat for a quill pen. The writing that appears is legible but a little unrefined, since she's still not used to penning letters with these fingers.]

I know how hard times can be here, so I'm happy to see everyone enjoying themselves. But I've been thinking, even if no one gets hurt on the outside, there are a lot of things that can trouble people. Things they might not be able to say to someone else's face for one reason or another. However, the Vine is a useful thing, then, isn't it? When we write like this, we can communicate without being afraid.

I'd like to think we could all speak in person without worrying, but I know the world isn't like that. I'm not able to do much, but I can at least listen, and try to help or give advice. I won't ask for any names. The Vine should deliver your messages to me if you ask.

What should you do if there is a person you like and you thought they did not like anyone (like as in romantic not the normal way) but you find out they have a relationship with someone you are both friends with? Did that make sense?

I think I understand. But there isn't really a way to control anyone's feelings. The best thing you can do is be honest with them. Even if they don't return your feelings, it isn't because you're less than the person they chose. I'm sure they still want to be friends with you, right?

I was hoping more for a way to deal with it without things getting all awkward. And I am kind of upset I guess that it was secret and nobody told me. Only maybe it was just obvious to everyone else.

Have you told the person you like how this all makes you feel? They might not have realized you didn't know.

No. I have kind of been avoiding both parties I guess. I do not think I can bring it up without making things worse. Because I do not know if there is a reason to bring it up at all.

If you're friends with someone, you care about their feelings, don't you?

Think about how they must feel, then. As your friend, they certainly don't want to see you upset, either. So if there's a way to solve things between you, they'll want to find it if you ask.

That is a good point. I guess I should try to talk about it some. Though I am not sure how to talk about it. I will have to figure something out.

You could approach it by telling your friend you're concerned about how she feels about your friendship. You could write to her like this if you're nervous.

I'm glad I was able to help. I find it can be easier to understand people if you focus on the fact that we're all the same on the inside. We all feel the same things.

I do not think that that is strictly the case here. There are a lot of people who are not human or not 100% human and they have very different ways of feeling. And I have had trouble understanding the feelings of humans also because people have big differences in how they feel.

I hear the word "human" a lot here, and it's very similar to a word for a people I know, so I think they must be the same thing. If they're what the majority of people here are. But what I meant to say is, despite our bodies, we all do feel. We're upset when we get hurt or sad when we lose things, and happy when something good happens. So we're not all that different after all.
