[Claire is peering at the Vine outside the library, looking decidedly confused.]

Something a little strange just happened--yes, I know everything here is strange, but...those creatures in the library. Bears, yes? There's a section of it they're guarding, and they wouldn't let me through before. But today they stood aside...

[she turns a little red here.] I don't understand the purpose of those kinds of books. I'm not really sure they teach you anything. But that's not the point--I'm not sure what changed to make the let me by.

[the truth is, her eighteenth birthday has come and gone recently, but she hasn't exactly been tracking time correctly since her first kidnapping, let alone her second.]

If anyone has any ideas--I'd appreciate it.

I can think about things from somebody else's point of view when they've got a good point of view. Otherwise, why should I? No point understanding somebody who needs to get their head examined, right?

[But in spite of that, she asks:] What're you gonna give me?

It's a surprise. [she wags a finger.]

I'll have to figure out when's the best time to surprise you. So you better watch out. It'll happen when you least expect it.
