[The Vine opens on a setting that is uncharacteristic of the Gardens. It appears to be a dimly lit laboratory. The walls are pale gray, with dark screens that flicker with green, displaying data that may or may not be meaningless. There is a low humming, from the lights or machinery. In the background, there is another sound--faint, but sharper and more disturbing: that of someone screaming.

The Vine is not here by accident or by its own design. It has been summoned by its friend Sephiroth, and it displays her helpfully, on command. In the gloom, the woman seems paler, and her glowing eyes brighter.]

A person has arrived here who has some connection with me. I have temporarily detained her, as it seemed likely she might be a danger to herself or the others here. I will release her as soon as I am satisfied that she is not.

[Yet this is not a purely informative transmission. There is another reason for it.] If there is anyone present who has experience in dealing with the mentally disturbed, I would appreciate your assistance.

I worry that the presence of others might upset her further, but as I've never been in such a situation, I'm not sure what the wisest course of action might be.

I met her for a little bit already. Even if she barely knows me, I'm not a total stranger and I can handle a dangerous person.

If she's a good girl, she gets shown where she can get food for herself. If she doesn't behave herself, she gets a smack upside the head until she learns. It's better than what the Queen would do if she hurts someone.

[Sephiroth considers, then shakes her head slowly.] I have seen people driven mad on the field of battle, and it was something like this. I don't believe that is the way to deal with mental disturbance.

She does not need to eat. I do not think she is truly a child, though she acts like one at times. [She is not sure what Kadaj is, which is troubling.]

Hm.

[Well, she does trust Sephiroth's judgement, so she's quiet for a moment.]

I can watch her for you for a while if you need a break.

I would appreciate that. I don't like to leave her alone for too long. [She isn't entirely sure that Kadaj won't be able to find a way out.] And I could use some time to train. [Training would ease this building tension.]

I’ll bring her some fruit she can try. Maybe if she likes it, she’ll calm down a little. Even if she doesn’t need to eat, some things taste good.

[The overwhelming amount of choice and variety available food-wise had certainly held Loly’s attention for a time.]

[Sephiroth is not so sure. Kadaj seems dedicated to not liking things at this point. Yet she doesn't say that.] It's worth trying.

Let me know when you plan to come. I will meet you outside. At your leisure.

Let me know when you want a break. It's not like I've got guarding duties or anything that I can't walk away from here.

You may come now, if it does not inconvenience you. I've begun to grow restless.
