[Contacting other people on the Vine? Asking for help? That is a loser thing that only losers do! Which is why the New Kid here has elected to wander off and occupy herself in making a flower crown and then exploring. She's scaling a statue in the memorial garden when the Vine, annoyed at the neglect, starts broadcasting. There are a few moments of unexciting and self-absorbed childhood innocence before she notices that she's on candid camera, at which point her expression darkens with annoyance.]

I dunno, seems like some kid who can't climb worth shit. [She laughs.]

[what] Yeah, right, like you can do any better.

Sure can. [Reno happens to be standing outside the apartment building, smoking. Not because she cares about smoking inside--she just got bored of being inside.

She's the best at climbing. Without removing the cigarette from her mouth, she turns and scales the side of the building rapidly, in spite of the fact that there don't seem to be any significant handholds that would aid someone in such an endeavor. She scurries up, then once she feels she's illustrated her point, she starts back, moving just as quickly--but it's more fun to just jump the rest of the way down, so she does, landing easily on the ground below.

This done, Reno leans back against the wall and takes another drag on her cigarette.]

[OK you have her respect now. Not that this changes her tone of voice.] I guess you're okay...

You know that's bad for you, right?

[Oh, kids. So young and so dumb. Reno snorts.]

Who cares? Y'ever notice that the stuff that's the most fun to do is the same as the stuff that's "bad" for you?

[She takes another drag before answering.] Name's Reno.

What about the Queen? Doesn't she chop off people's heads? Or boss people around?

[Reno hasn't seen much of the Queen and is not the Gardens' biggest expert on the subject, but that doesn't stop her from answering the question with confidence.]

She does mess people up, but only if you kill things, I guess. I saw one girl get cut to ribbons by some monsters. The Queen'd probably chop off your head if you chopped off somebody else's.

...I guess I won't do that, then. Not unless I really feel like it.

[Laura: could totally perform decapitations! For reals!]

Yeah, I've been cutting back too, for the time being.

[She laughs. It's not that magic killer kids are completely outside the realm of her experience, but so far this kid seems pretty normal to her.]

So where are the monsters? Do they just jump out and eat people?

[Laura is strangely cheerful about these monsters. Possibly because she does not actually accept their reality, at least as it pertains to her.]

It depends. Sometimes. [Reno has a similar feeling about the monsters, discussing them rather casually. They haven't caused her any problems, so they don't matter much to her.] The Queen changes shit around whenever she feels like it, so they could be anywhere.

You just said a bad word! [Zounds!]

Hell yeah, I did.

You oughta try it. It's fun. [Though not particularly interested in kids, Reno's bored enough to keep talking, and kids cursing is kinda funny.]
