[Following her adventure with Fela, Sephiroth decided to sail out to see if the ocean could be crossed. As it turns out, it could not be. After Sephiroth reached a certain point, she lost consciousness and awoke back on the shore, where her journey began. For her efforts, she was rewarded with a wildcard effect.

She is currently nine years old. More than that, she temporarily has only the memories of her nine year old self.

The silver-haired, green-eyed child is currently kneeling on the beach, wearing the white gown of a new arrival. The birds brought the garment for her because her usual clothes had become too large for her to wear. Her sword, pauldrons, and battle gear lie beside her on the sand. She remains still, as if waiting for something, though she has the slightly impatient air of someone who feels she has been waiting too long.

The Vine has wound its way toward her, and when it produces a mirror, she studies it curiously. It is something like a screen, and she needs to contact the researchers. She addresses it formally.]

Subject name Sephiroth.

I believe the intercom or the program may be malfunctioning. I have received no instructions, and the simulation is inactive. Please respond.

[[OOC: Sephiroth will be Tinyroth for the next 3 days, following which point all her memories will return. She will also retain her memories of her temporary second childhood.]]

Yeah. I could find no other records of a being like myself... Maybe I'm some sort of strange accident. I have absolutely no desire to attempt to bear offspring, so I'll probably never know if I can.

Professor Hojo? No, I don't know of him. I'm not familiar with Shinra, either. But I'm becoming used to being in the dark, in this place that has people from so many different worlds.

You might be an anomaly. I too am unique.

My hypothesis is that you cannot bear young. Especially if one of your parent species is human, because the other species must be quite divergent. I am probably correct, so you need not test it.

[She pauses.] Different worlds?

You're also one-of-a-kind? That's interesting. I remember when I was young I had a lot of trouble fitting in. People treated me differently. Do you ever have situations like that?

I'll take your word for it when it comes to bearing young. [She smiles.]

Yes. Someone calling herself "The Queen" has summoned people to this place, many of them from vastly different worlds.

[Sephiroth does not exactly understand what Zenobia is talking about. She has spent most of her life in the lab, and everything there revolves around her.] Of course I am treated differently. I am a subject, not a researcher, but that is my place in the laboratory.

[She nods, confident in her conclusion.] I have read a great deal on the subject of genetics.

If she has abducted me, then I must fight her. [Another pause.] How are we taken from different worlds?

Oh. I see. That makes sense.

Genetics, huh. You're pretty smart, you know? [Wow, looks like even as a child, Sephiroth is impressive.]

If you want to fight the Queen, you'll have to find her first. I'm not sure how she transported us here. I woke up wearing an outfit similar to the one your wearing. I don't know how she took me. She must have some incredible power.

My peripheral socialization is limited. The professor will be displeased that I have been taken from the lab. [She sighs in irritation, because she has little patience for his tirades and rages.]

I am an enhanced human. [She takes for granted the fact that she is intelligent.]

I will try to find her. What do you know about her? [Sephiroth considers the problem of the Queen. The "incredible power" is troubling. She's never fought anyone like that before. Someone who can take people from other worlds... The situation is strange, as is the very thought of other worlds. Strange and intriguing. Yet the idea of assembling various subjects in the same environment is familiar to her.] Is she also a researcher?

[Zenobia is still quite puzzled. Was this Sephiroth taken from her world at this young age? Are there now two Sephiroths from different timelines running around? She's not sure.]

Well, you may be away from this professor for a while. People who appear here generally are stuck here for a while. Some disappear, and I assume they return back to their home world, but it seems to occur randomly over time... Regardless, why not take this opportunity to take a vacation from this professor?

You are enhanced... is that the work of this "Hojo?" To be able to modify humans... that's interesting. [Is this why Sephiroth was so above normal human abilities when they 'sparred?' The implications stun Zenobia.]

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I know very little about the queen. I've wanted to meet her since coming here. Perhaps she is a researcher. That's a new theory, though if she is, she doesn't interact with her subjects much. She seems to have some preoccupation with romance, also. [Zenobia will omit the fact that this fact makes her like this queen a lot.]

You don't understand. If I am gone, there will be repercussions. [Though the idea of being away from the professor is appealing, she has her suspicions about what happens to researchers who displease him. However, she allows herself to enjoy the thought of a vacation from him, tentatively.]

It is the work of Professor Gast and Professor Hojo. [Now she is fairly sure that she is not being observed; this will test it. If the professor heard her say that, he surely would not allow it to pass unchallenged, and it pleases her to list Professor Gast first, although he left the project.]

Romance? [A slight pause, then understanding.] You mean mating rituals. Anthropology. [She gives a faint, patronizing oh, soft sciences smile.] In such a behavioral study, the researcher most likely would not interact a great deal with her subjects. [Then she frowns.] I question the wisdom of including a juvenile female in a study of mating rituals. I am not sexually mature.

Well, I'm told that those who leave this place return to the exact point in time when they disappeared. I don't understand how that's even possible, but given everything else that has happened, I don't doubt it. Perhaps that means you can avoid these repercussions. [Zenobia just assumed that Sephiroth meant she'd be punished or something.]

The professors are very skilled, I assume? [Zenobia pauses. She only asked because she's curious how the Sephiroth she saw got so strong. She hasn't witnessed this new Sephiroth do anything impossible, even though she seems overly intelligent.]

Well, I first assumed that, ah, mating was involved, too. I'm not sure if that's true, seeing as, like you said, young girls are brought here. Oh, did I forget to mention that everyone that's summoned here is female, as far as we know?

Interesting. Maybe this is all one big study. ...Not sure what the aim of that study would be. [And if it were true that the queen were researching them, this fact wouldn't really change Zenobia's actions. If the queen wants to be a voyeur, then so be it.]

[She relaxes at the news that her absence will not be noticed.] That is fortunate. My presence in the lab is of extreme importance.

[Sephiroth considers the question about the professors carefully before choosing her words.] They are the most prominent scientists in the world. Few limits are set on their research.

A study of same-sex mating rituals? [That is novel, and slightly more interesting.] I thought such behavior was anomalous. It could be that juveniles are included as a kind of control group, although that would be unusual. [Though the whole situation is unusual.]

The aim of a behavioral study is to investigate and analyze interactions between organisms. [This seems fairly obvious to her, and her tone is authoritative as she says it.]

Wow. Best-of-the-best, then. You must be pretty impressive if you're their... um... what word should I use? Um... project? Maybe that's not a good word for it. That doesn't sound very humane. Hmmm...

Same-sex relationships are rarer, but in a way, I think that makes them special. [Zenobia thinks they're the superior kind of relationship, actually, but she doesn't have anything to back that up with.] Well, young ones can form strong friendships, which might also be of interest. I guess.

Oh. I guess that makes sense. It just... I dunno, it just doesn't seem like this queen is very organized. People pop in and out all the time. I wonder if when people leave, it means she's learned all she can about them.

You may call me a project. That is not incorrect. [She doesn't find the term problematic, though perhaps she should.] I represent the pinnacle of their research.

Behavior that is rare is not necessarily of greater worth. [That strikes her as an illogical statement.] From a reproductive standpoint, same-sex mating is less desirable, though not detrimental. [Her feelings on the subject are quite neutral.] I do not form friendships.

Just because she is a researcher, that does not mean she is a good one. Researchers--and their studies--can be quite flawed.

Okay. As long as you're okay with it. But you're still a person, you know. So I feel kind of weird calling you that.

Well, okay, maybe it's not of greater worth, per say, but I generally find rarer things to be more interesting. [Which is true, but she's still just justifying.] Seeing as I don't plan to reproduce, I have little interest in the reproductive standpoint of mating.

That's true. [Zenobia feels slightly- only very slightly- embarrassed about her own 'research' with that anonymous sexual preference poll.]

Of course I'm a person. The two are not mutually exclusive. Why do you not call me Sephiroth, then? [This woman is not very logical.]

If that is your preference. All animal behavior is significant, but I suppose aberrant behavior has a draw, especially as it can be more difficult to explain. I cannot reproduce, so it is also of no personal interest to me.

[Her upbringing makes her particularly scornful of anyone she views as an erratic researcher. She nods, agreeing with Zenobia while disapproving of the Queen.] This Queen's methodology is sloppy. But if you say we will be returned to the point we were taken from, it is not such an inconvenience. [She does not agree with her older self in this, because she is pleased to be away from the professor.] What is your world like?

You're right. ...I'm not very knowledgeable about science or scientists, so I got confused. I'll just call you Sephiroth.

I guess you don't have interest in romance, either? [She might be a little young for that, Zenobia]

My world? [Zenobia thinks for a moment. What could she say about her world that's different from any other world?] Well...

There are many kingdoms, some of which are peaceful and others that seem to always be at war... There is a land where only demons dwell... there are cities where advanced ETHER theory is furthered... We don't have some of the things I've seen here, like the "Ferris Wheel" that moves cars using only mechanical means, as well as many of the buildings here are foreign to me...

Um... is this helping at all?

I prefer to be called Sephiroth. [She's not quite sure what to make of the romance question, as she's made it clear that she is a juvenile.] For the most part, I associate only with researchers and military personnel.

[She nods.] That's acceptable. My question was vague. I was not sure how to ask about an entire world, as I have never met anyone from a different one before. [She's quite curious about it. Other worlds sound so fascinating.]

We have various nations, but most of them are under the control of Shinra Electric Power Company. We also have amusement rides like Ferris Wheels, but I have never been on one. [She has read about much more than she has experienced, where such things are concerned.] Is demon your other parent species? Humans are the only people in my world capable of speech.

What is ETHER?

...Yes. I am half-demon. Like I said, it's not exactly a common occurrence, as I seem to be the only example. I've looked through many a library for texts and records, and many books say that such a thing is impossible.

So this Shinra Power Company controls most of the world? People in my world were worried about a nation called Zera that they feared would dominate much of the land. I suppose having one power control so much of the world could be either very good or very bad, depending on how they rule.

ETHER is the eight-elemental magic system that is most commonly used in my world. It has outstanding applications in not only combat but improving daily living. While most people have to study or have special training to use it, it came naturally to me. But now that my demonic power has waned, I can't use it at all any more. It's totally lost to me.

Perhaps there was something unusual about your parents or their union? It's too bad there is no remaining evidence, so you can't research it.

Shinra doesn't sound like this Zera. Shinra protects the people and provides them with clean power. Quality of life has improved greatly since the advent of their new technology. [This is what she's been taught, and she says it quite confidently.]

[She nods.] We also have elemental magic in my world. I didn't realize magical power could be lost. [She frowns.] That is unfortunate. Could your power be restored?

Yeah. My parents are dead. [She knows her mother and her human husband are dead. She knows that all too well. And her demon father had also fallen, if what she learned on her quest to the land of the damned is correct.]

Well, that's good. A lot of people have faith in Zera, but they just want to control people. It's comforting to know that there can be a ruling power that helps people.

I didn't think magical power could be lost, either, but maybe it has to do with my demonic blood? Since I was sealed in a holy relic, perhaps that's the problem.

I don't know how my power could be restored. I'm doing some training on the advice of... well, a strong warrior... but honestly, I don't know what I can do to get it back.

Mine are as well. My mother died when I was born, and I know nothing of my father. [She relates these facts calmly.]

Shinra shares its technology with all the people of the world. [Whether they like it or not.]

[Sephiroth is not quite sure what all this talk of demonic and holy means, as it is outside of her experience and education. She thinks if over.] Is that because holy and demonic are opposing forces, so it negated your power? Then perhaps you could infuse yourself with more demonic power from another source. Are there also demonic relics?

Training is a good way to increase power. I train to increase mine. That will work if your abilities have merely atrophied and can regain strength.

Sounds like we're in similar situations in that regard. I have no family, so when people talk about it, I'm never sure how to feel.

Yeah, I'm no expert in ETHER or magic, but I assume that the holy relic did something to my demonic body. I don't know what. There are demonic relics in my own world, but they are said to be dangerous. Also, I don't know if I could find one here. Perhaps that'd be something I could try, though, if some opportunity arises.

The problem with training is that, aside from some exercises and routines, I really don't know how to do it. Maybe I should seek out a master of some sort who could show me how to train in a more proper way.

I also have no family. I am not sure what that must be like, but as I have never had a family, I cannot miss it.

Demonic relics would be dangerous to a half-demon as well? We do not have anything like that in my world, so I am not familiar with how such things work.

Are there any demons here that you could ask? Or perhaps someone else who knows about such things?

I have some very vague memories of my mother and the man she married, [And one memory that has stayed much clearer in her mind] but they seem almost insignificant now after all this time.

Well, there are different types of demonic energies, not to mention that many demonic relics in my world were made for nefarious purposes, like human sacrifice, so I'm a little wary of them. But if I could find one I'd definitely try to use it, but I'd be sure I know exactly what it's purpose is first.

Hey, that's a good idea! I've been asking around here and there, but I should send out a video on the vine to ask if there are any demons here. Or at least anyone familiar with such things. That's great! [Zenobia seems to be cheered up considerably by this idea.]

[She nods.] My mother's name was Jenova. [This is the only thing she knows.]

Your caution seems warranted, if that's the case. It's wise to study things thoroughly first, before experimenting with them.

[She smiles a little, pleased to have come up with a good idea. She likes solving problems.] You should do so. Perhaps you can locate someone who will be able to help you.

That's a pretty name. I've never heard a name quite like it before.

I will definitely do it.
