[The mirror shows what should be a familiar sight by now--a young woman in a white arrival's dress. Except...this one has the wide slit-pupiled eyes and animate ears of...a cat. The gaze she examines the mirror with is intelligent and curious, and she sits back after a moment. Her face sets with determination, the voice issuing from her clear and firm.]

Your Majesty. I'm not sure I understand what's going on, but...if I am the one you truly need, please let these other girls go. They've done you no harm, and their families miss them dearly.

And as far as I understand-- [she looks down for a moment, showing the briefest sign of hesitation.] You've...obtained what you wanted, right? There's no need to continue this any further. And my friends...Veigue...I don't want anyone to come to any more harm.

If you can hear me, please stop this. You're the one with the power to do so.

[her expression isn't pleading; it's almost sad. The mirror seems to take this as a cue to go dark.]

I've never heard of such a thing before, but it sounds amazing! I'm not sure what it has to do with Viruses, though...they're large and easy to see. They wouldn't be so dangerous otherwise. They're the monsters you should watch out for.

[she laughs a little, despite herself.] If anything, I'd like to help everyone here get home. Even if it means defying the Queen...I understand her word is law, but taking people from their homes isn't right.

I'm pleased to meet you, Reno. Though I wish it were under better circumstances.

Oh, there's a monster called a Virus. I get it. Our viruses are tiny and cause diseases, totally different thing. We do have lots of monsters, though, unfortunately.

I'm not gonna argue with you there. I want to go home. I don't give a shit about the Queen either. I heard she's some crazy bitch who wants us to hook up, and supposedly there's no way out.

[she's nice to everyone, okay. Even crazy monarchs that kidnap her.]

Yes, the monsters that plague the countryside are known as Viruses. Though I'm not sure where the word came from...they could easily be called something else in other places.

[hook up? She decides not to ask for the time being. This is all very confusing.]

Oh, no. Gajuma come in all shapes and sizes, and there are Huma like yourself, of course. [an odd thought occurs to her. Was it possible...?]

We got all kinds of monsters. Worms with teeth, dragons, giant turtles, floating ugly heads, electric birds, big flying demons--all kinds.

Nope. Never heard of that, either. I'm from Edge, formerly the City of Midgar. [She could perhaps insert some useful information here about everyone coming from different worlds, but she doesn't.] Everybody there's a regular human. Well--mostly.

I think I'm gonna call you Kitty from now on, Kitty.

Midgar...? I've never heard of it, but then again, the world is a big place. I never really left my home until recently. I'm from the village of Sulz, in the north.

[she looks more bemused than anything at the last part.] Should I be giving you a nickname, too?

[Reno shakes her head.] Believe me, if you were from my world, you'd have heard of Midgar. It's the capital of the world. Was. Uh, it's still kind of the capital. But you'd have heard of it, no question. We rule everything.

If you wanna give me a nickname, go ahead--I've been given a lot of them over the years. [She laughs.] Some nicer than others. Give it your best shot.

[~~...Rebirth had pretty much all of them. Sob.~~]

[give her a moment while she absorbs this, and puts two and two together. Nicknames are forgotten for the moment.]

Are you saying...there's more than one world?

Oh right, people come here from a lot of different worlds. [Reno sounds jaded, as if this was something she took so for granted that she hardly thought to mention it.]

Might not even be anyone else here from your world. You're a long way from home, Kitty.

That's amazing...I never knew other worlds existed. [she takes a momnet to absorb this.]

Well...it's worth a try. Have you seen a young man with long, blue hair? He carries a sword, and he's always serious-looking.

There are a bunch of them, apparently.

Definitely haven't seem him. There aren't any guys here, by the way. So if he does show up here, he'll be from some alternate universe where he's a chick. Some guys I know showed up here, with boobs.

How many, do you think?

[she laughs.] Oh, you're pulling my leg.

I'm not sure, but probably millions. [Reno has nothing solid to base this guess on, but if there are separate universes for chick Reeve and chick Sephiroth, there must be a whole shitload of them.]

No way, it's true. Okay, I wouldn't believe it either if somebody told me, but I mean it. There's even this one lady here who's a guy with a beard in my world. And she acts the same and says the same kind of things and sort of looks similar, in a girly way. But with no beard. It's messed up.

Millions... [her mind is a little blown, ngl.]

It sounds like the Queen really is adamant about having only girls here...

But that's all right. Even if he's a girl, it's what's on the inside that matters. Veigue would still be Veigue.

[Reno's mind would be much more blown if she actually bothered to consider the things she was saying in a thoughtful manner.]

Yeah, I think she likes girls a lot, if you know what I mean.

That makes sense, I guess. It'd be fun to see the guys I know as girls. [Reno imagines this and smirks.] I hope your man shows up, Kitty--is he your boyfriend or something?

[she doesn't really know, but she'd get it with a little more explanation. The thought of liking girls has simply never occurred to her before.]

My boyfriend? [she laughs, putting a hand to her mouth, though her face does color a little.] Oh, no. We grew up together. My parents looked after him after he lost his family.

Oh, so he's like your brother--or your sister, if he showed up here.

[Amused by the subject, and encouraged by Claire's faint blush, Reno decides to get more nosy.] Do you have a boyfriend? Or a girlfriend?

Yes, exactly like that.

Me? [she shakes her head.] Oh, I'm only seventeen. I haven't had time for that sort of thing.

What? Seventeen's not too young for that! That's when you should be out having the most fun.

[She shakes her head.] Man, what are they teaching kids in Kittyland?

[she just laughs.]

How to cook, and clean, and care for animals and plant crops. I need to be able to help my parents farm when they grow too old to work.

You hang out at a farm all the time doing chores?

That's--I can't think of much that's worse than that.

It's a peaceful life. I enjoy it quite a lot, actually. I visit my friends and the other villagers too, of course. Every now and then we all get together in the meeting hall and eat together...

[she sounds a bit wistful.]

I hope they're not worrying too much about me right now. I wish I could send a message, at least, to let them know I'm all right.
