Hey, um, you pokemon people?

How do you take care of them? Do I need a pokeball or something? Is there some kind of grooming involved?

[Jessica lifts a very enthusiastic bulbasaur into view]

Because this one's kind of decided to camp out in the fortress and keeps following me around.

Well... I think grooming is kinda similar to any other animal you'd take care of on your world, to be honest...

... Granted, I've never had a Bulbasaur, so I might not be the best person to ask about her...

My prior experience with grooming involved mostly brushing and the occasional bath, and... well, there's not a lot to brush here.

[She idly scratches the pokemon behind the... ear-looking bumps. It seems to be quite happy about this state of affairs.]

Is there like some kind of, I don't know, poke-kibble I need to get, or can they eat table scraps or something?

... That's a good question. I mean, back home I fed my pokemon special pokemon food mostly but I... don't know how easy it is to get it here. What are the other trainers here doing?

You could... probably make it from the dirt, I think. Or maybe the Necessities has something like that?

I wouldn't even begin to know what the rest of you guys are doing. I just started learning about these things like last week, and I never expected to need a more practical guide to it!

She should be able to do that somewhat, since she's a grass type. And well, most pokemon are omnivores, so that should work fine if we can't find any pokemon food for it.

I've never really seen a Bulbasaur up close, but, if she's a like other grass Pokemon, you'll need to give her time in the sun and lots of water.

I don't believe so. If I remember correctly, Bulbasuar don't have roots, though Misty or Sabrina would know better than me.

Well, her bulb is a bit larger compared to the rest of her. [Also, the little women's symbol next to her name over her health bar]

I don't know a great deal about Pokemon, but since they're wandering freely by the Pavilion, I'd imagine they can take care of themselves.

Maybe you can think of it as a friend rather than a pet.

It must like you if it followed you there. I haven't seen any other Pokemon outside the Pavilion.

I think they might be fueled by light, like I am, since they're part plant. If she needs anything else, she can probably forage for it.

Good point... they're sort of wild. Ish. There's definitely plenty of light here. That clear ceiling is turning out to be a pretty good choice, huh? [She allows herself a modicum of pride.]

I guess it'd be good to have someone else around here. Even with the new bedroom, it feels weird waking up with no parents and no dogs.

She'd probably enjoy going out to forage. You're right: in any living space, more light is better. That was a good idea. [Epsilon: a big fan of windows and natural light.]

If you'd like more company, I can come to stay. I haven't taken up residence anywhere.

..really? Sure! Yeah, that'd be... that'd be cool. There's plenty of room, and you can take your pick of pretty much anywhere that isn't the hospital part or storage, and... um... yeah.

[She might be a bit excited about this. A bit.]

Of course. No one should have to be alone if they don't want to be. I've been missing companionship, too. I'm not used to living by myself. My only real need is sunlight, so I'm not too worried about the accommodations. I'm sure they'll be fine.

I'd also be able to help with defending, if the the need arises.

Yeah, defense would definitely be appreciated... Along with, y'know, just having someone around. It's actually pretty lonely here. Like, all over.

It is very lonely here, isn't it? I've felt that, too. Especially for a place supposedly devoted to forming bonds between people. It's odd.

But we can keep each other company.

It's just so... fake.

Though I guess I've made more friends here than back home, just out of necessity.

I guess you miss your kids?

[She nods.] If she wants us to be happy and form real bonds, kidnapping us was no way to achieve that. There are many people here I'm glad to have met, too, but that doesn't make things right.

I do miss my children very much. I think of them always. I'm sure you must feel the same about your family.

Well, there's always Stockholm Syndrome...

Yeah... [She hugs the bulbasaur.]

[She doesn't take up the subject of the psychological effects that this place might have. It's not really the time. Jessica looks upset.]

I can be there very soon, if you don't mind me coming now.

Huh? O- okay. Yeah, may as well, right?

[She smiles again.] All right. You'll see me in a few minutes, Jessica.

[She doesn't fly a great deal in the Gardens, as there's little need to do so, but there's no reason not to fly if she has somewhere in particular to be. It takes her almost no time to reach the fortress. She alights outside, near one of the doors, then travels the very short rest of the way on foot.]

[The door opens fairly quickly] That was so cool.

I guess you don't have any, uh, stuff to bring. (Of course not, nobody really does here.)

Thank you. Some of the more advanced robots are capable of flight.

I'm rather self-contained. I do need maintenance every now and then, but I'm guessing that the magic will take care of that here.

I haven't been inside your fortress before. You clearly put a great deal of thought into it.

I kind of do that with everything, I guess. Detail-oriented, that sort of thing. I pretend like it makes up for my lack of imagination.

[The bulbasaur toddles up and inspects Epsilon Very Seriously. Jessica watches it with trepidation, in case it does some kind of Sudden Animal Thing that would insult their guest.]

I do appreciate the spirit of the offer. There shouldn't be any need for some time, as I'm not very active here.

It's a good trait. I don't have a great deal of imagination, myself, so I'm the same in that respect. But then, that could be said for most robots. [She smiles.]

[Epsilon kneels and pets the Bulbasaur when it stops to watch her, and addresses it.] Hello. It's very nice to meet you.

Hah. I've been accused of being a robot on occasion. Though usually that's not the target people go for, since you have to be around me for a while to notice.

[Bulbasaur sees that you are following proper guest protocol of petting it, Epsilon. Very well, you are cleared for entry.] [It pats Epsilon's shin with a forepaw.]
