☣ third story. (video)
( Ellie's just sort of lying down by the vine, playing with a tiny tiny fruitknife. It looks blunt and useless, and like it's seen better days, but Ellie is just unfolding and refolding it. )
I've been thinking. ( A bit of a pause, and her voice drops, something like self mockery. ) Big shock, there.
So, if we're all here, and we're all... stuck. That means all our friends and people, they're either home, or they might just wind up here too, right? ( Hmm. Either she's got extremely muted enthusiasm, or she's confused by the idea. Or maybe both. ) Does anyone have friends here? Friends not from here, I mean, the sort that are imports from home.
( Again, with the dry side commentary. ) Like... wine, or something. ( . . . Well. There's Homer. ) Or cheap beer.
( Ellie shakes her head, brushing her hair out of her face. )
The point was... if you do, or if you don't-- do you wish your friends were here? Is it wrong, wishing that? Wishing that people you love where here, with you, when it means there'd also be... some sort of sci-fi-fantasy nightmare with... killer plants, or if... having them here, you being here meant that you weren't doing whatever stupid, important things you had to get done back home?
Or... ( she clears her throat ) something.
( ooc:: I have to zip out to work shortly, but I will backtag forever when I get home! )

And, well... yeah. Bears are the cuddliest things around. I mean, rabbits and foxes and cats are nice, but they don't make good pillows like bears do. I have a pet kermode, home. Had her for centuries.
( Why, Maggie. Why must you say these bewildering things? ) I always thought they had a habit of eating people. That was all bad press, was it?
Pretty much. Sure, they will if times are rough and the human was clearly asking for it, but all in all, they're really quite lovable, especially if you treat them right.
( Bring on the moose, man. Bring it on. ) Sounds a bit like a bull, really. Maybe bears aren't so bad. ( Oh, but really. Bears. )
It's no worse than the way people think of deer and moose. Moose get such bad stigma. Beaver are far crankier little things.
( Not that it keeps her from making them all the time. )
You know, it's funny. Your creatures get all the flack, and people think that roos and koalas are going to be all cuddly and sweet. They can tear you apart good if you piss them off.
Of course, I have seen bears and moose do horrible things. But then I've seen Oz's koala be perfectly cuddly, too. Moment after taking a good swipe at France, but that's neither here nor there. On the other hand... you definitely win for snakes. Without a doubt.
I'm sure Oz'll put that trophy on her mantle, if you get her one.
If I ever get home, I'll look into getting one for her.
( Aw. This conversation was... weirdly nice. Talking about odd Australian things, even if the whole country thing is still hard to totally comprehend. She'll deal with it. ) Yeah. Add something about being a 'true blue battler' on there, too. We like that kind of stuff.
So easy to please, the lot of you are sometimes. It's great.
Sometimes. We get worse the longer you know us.
Well, I was kidnapped to a magical land with an evil Queen, birds with so appreciation of personal space and shapeshifting dirt.
( ... So, not that well, really. )
Short of getting you home, is there anything I can do to help?
I don't know. ( Oh, wait. ) Do you know anything about that magic dirt stuff? If it works?
How about that whole... making places thing?
Making places seems to work pretty well if you put your mind to it, though.
You're not going to start telling me to embrace the power of positivity, are you?
I don't know if it'll serve you any better than realistic expectations and persistence, but if you want me to, I can.
No, that's okay. ( Faux-cheer, there. ) I think I like the current plan better.
But, oh, I think sometimes weird things happen over in the place you have to go to get the dirt. So I don't think you should go alone, if you do go.
