Report 001 [video]
[Upon arriving, her first act was to recover her clothes and her sword. Only after thoroughly surveying the surrounding area and reading the cat's scroll does she attempt to access the Vine.
The image that appears is that of an androgynous woman with silver hair and bright green eyes. She does not seem happy, but then, she doesn't seem particularly upset, either. For thirty seconds or so, she is silent, examining the Vine and the mirror it has produced. She touches the Vine, curiously, and appears intrigued by the way it responds to her. At last, she speaks, in a low, calm voice.]
How interesting. I am unfamiliar with this technology.
[She raises her voice to a normal speaking volume.]
If this is transmitting and someone is receiving, please inform. Identify yourself. This is Sephiroth, of SOLDIER. I repeat, this is Sephiroth, of SOLDIER.
[A pause. When she next speaks, a note of concern is audible in her tone, disturbing the calm of her voice very slightly.]
Angeal, if you receive this, respond.

Yeah, that's about the story. I'm not sure what kind of experiment this would be, other than "glaringly illegal and unethical." I've heard speculation about rebuilding a civilization, but that seems kind of difficult without the other sex.
My current hypothesis is "The Queen is freaking crazy."

It would certainly be an example of unethical science. Do such things not occur in your world? I am familiar with experiments of this kind. Subjects are exposed to various stimuli in a closed environment, their reactions and behavior monitored.
The mad also can conduct experiments. Yet I have heard the other theory, and I cannot disprove it.

When we have psychological experiments- at least in the U.S.- everyone participating has to have volunteered. Like, even if you got any kind of useful result from this, nobody'd publish it.

[She smiles again. Jessica's description of scientific ethics strikes her as almost charmingly naive.] In my world, there is no such precondition for research, not for those with sufficient political influence. There is no reason to believe that such safeguards exist here.
Yet your theory that this is sheer madness is tenable. Have you made attempts to investigate?
no subject
Some. It's tough, since the Queen is kind of... not here, and there's no way out.
no subject
I mean to research the matter myself, but I do not know where to begin, and I do not wish to simply retrace the steps of those who have already begun to investigate. What forms has your investigation taken thus far?

no subject
I will do just that.
