[Upon arriving, her first act was to recover her clothes and her sword. Only after thoroughly surveying the surrounding area and reading the cat's scroll does she attempt to access the Vine.

The image that appears is that of an androgynous woman with silver hair and bright green eyes. She does not seem happy, but then, she doesn't seem particularly upset, either. For thirty seconds or so, she is silent, examining the Vine and the mirror it has produced. She touches the Vine, curiously, and appears intrigued by the way it responds to her. At last, she speaks, in a low, calm voice.]

How interesting. I am unfamiliar with this technology.

[She raises her voice to a normal speaking volume.]

If this is transmitting and someone is receiving, please inform. Identify yourself. This is Sephiroth, of SOLDIER. I repeat, this is Sephiroth, of SOLDIER.

[A pause. When she next speaks, a note of concern is audible in her tone, disturbing the calm of her voice very slightly.]

Angeal, if you receive this, respond.

Of course. I'm more than willing to help anyone who requires assistance. [ ] I've been here for around a month, so there's a fair amount I know. Where would you like me to start?

Gunsmith. An admirable trade, though I prefer swordplay to gunplay myself.

Do you hunt criminals or monsters?

Assisting arrivals is a noble goal, Anna Lin. [She nods her head, pleased.] I appreciate your aid.

Yes, SOLDIER is the name of an elite force within the military arm of Shinra, Inc. Our operatives are currently engaged in combat, and this displacement has interrupted my mission.

Is there a location where people have gathered? I have spoken to a few individuals via this Vine, but I have seen none in person.

A housing complex, referred to by the Queen and her victims as "the Necessities." The cats here are intelligent enough to understand your questions and lead you there if you ask them.

I'm afraid you've been waylaid by a well meaning but quite insane power.

The cats, I see. I will ask them.

Insanity negates many of the benefits of good intentions, does it not? I've been informed that many of us are being kept here, against our will, some for lengthy periods of time. I do not understand why. For what purpose are we here? Is it sheer madness on the part of this Queen?

All of this is conjecture, so take it with a grain of salt.

I think she's the survivor of something that took out her civilization, and is attempting to rebuild it. And unclear on the concept of having children for that matter - she's trying to, ah, encourage female-female romances. Subtly, thank God.

I thank you for your help. [She returns the gesture.]

I know only that which I have been told so far. I have been brought here against my will by an unknown party. I take it there is no discernible way to leave this place?

I am also concerned for my comrade, who does not seem to be here with me. Have you encountered anyone named Angeal?

That's right. The Queen rules over this world, and seems to have power enough to summon people as she wishes. She's only brought women over, thus far, and rarely ever shows her face. Nobody's actually met her in person, and we haven't found a way out, yet. It's not simply a case of flying off-world, either; there's some sort of barrier in the sky.

And I'm sorry, but I haven't heard of anyone by that name. I'll continue to keep an eye out, though, as there are plenty of people I've yet to come into contact with.

[For the first time, Sephiroth's expression registers concern as she processes this information.]

If no one has met her in person, how can we be certain she even exists? No way out, a barrier above, random subjects all of the same sex--it sounds like this could be a laboratory environment, if a very sophisticated one.

Thank you for your offer, but there is no need for you to keep an eye out for my comrade if there are only women here. I had not realized that fact. Angeal is male.

Actually, you'd... be surprised. [ ] My friend's here. Actually, he's more of a brother than a friend, which – well, that's the problem. In this world, she's a girl.

But as for the Queen, you're right. She might not be what she claims to be, or just an illusion created by someone else. We can't know for sure.

Though it is conjecture, I am interested in your observations and conclusions.

Romance between women? That is--unexpected. If you believe she wishes to rebuild her civilization in this way, perhaps her race was all female, or perhaps they did not reproduce sexually?

However, the more I hear about this place, the more it sounds as if we could be part of a behavioral experiment. Not that I wish to discount your theory, as it has merit.

Your latter theory is too plausible for my comfort, but the behavior of the Queen... Then again, we only have her word that she instigated this.

Normally I wouldn't mind a romantic getaway - I have no preference in that regard - but being thrown on a functional island with strangers has killed any mood I might have. [Lineface forever.]

[Sephiroth does not understand how a change in sex could present a problem, so she is only pleased by this news.] That is heartening, thank you. Most of my comrades are male, but perhaps one of them will appear here after all. Their sex makes no difference to me.

True. [She regains her calm.] If there is not sufficient evidence, we should not jump to any conclusions. I will attempt to investigate further.

[ ] I hope some of your comrades arrive soon. I'd hate to think that anyone was completely alone here.

If you do uncover anything, I'm sure we'd all appreciate being informed.

[The video clicks on. Tifa's standing in her bar, shattered glass near her feet. Her eyes are bright with hatred.] You're not supposed to be. [This is said firmly. Her voice is less shaky now, but she still sounds angry.] You're not--

Tifa Lockhart, of Nibelheim. What mission? What are you planning?

It is. Is that common on your world?

I would say there are many here. The ones that weren't taken from other worlds appear to be or are connected to our captors.

Tifa Lockheart. [She nods in greeting.] Nibelheim. I am familiar with the name. [Sephiroth tries to fathom the reason for the woman's intense anger. She is not angry herself, only very curious. She is unused to such treatment from someone from home. The war is a popular one. She does not ask how Tifa knows her, because she is used to being known..]

I cannot share the particulars of my mission.

Are you opposed to the Wutai War? I assure you, SOLDIER's involvement in the war will reduce casualties and hasten the end of the conflict. I am personally committed to avoiding the loss of civilian lives.

Why do you believe I should be dead?

[She's about to snap at Sephiroth again, but the words make her pause. This...is bizarre. The anger gives way to confusion, and Tifa's brow furrows.]

The Wutai War...? It ended years ago. What kind of game are you playing at? [She seems less sure now, though, and it shows in her body language.]

Nibelheim...you said you'd heard of it. Have you ever been there? Do you remember?

Nibelheim. [She says the name again, more thoughtfully.] As a SOLDIER, I am familiar with most places on the map. I am sure that is why I remember it. Although-- [Something gives her pause, if only for a moment.] Perhaps it sounds more familiar than most. Someone might have mentioned it to me in the past. Yet I have not been there.

[This woman and her odd pronouncements are puzzling, but the war is one thing Sephiroth is certain of.] The Wutai War is not over. I am in the midst of it. Or I was, before I was taken here.

[She falls into silence, processing this. Sephiroth being a woman aside--she's heard that the magic here caused such things. But not knowing of Nibelheim...thinking the Wutai War was still going on...]

You're...you're from before. Before everything happened...

The Wutai War, it ended seven years ago.

I have been told that the people here come from different worlds. I see no reason they might not be taken from different time periods as well. It is a fascinating phenomenon.

Seven years ago. And in your time, I am dead. [She speaks of her death calmly, as if it were another interesting phenomenon worth studying. Yet she is not certain if she wishes to know the manner of her death.] Did we know each other well, Tifa? I take it from your initial reaction that our relationship was antagonistic.

Much of our technology is influenced by what some call magic. But it is not like this Vine. [She touches it lightly again.] Does your world have things like this?

So there are others here, who are not prisoners? What are they like?

'Technology' this alien and confounding is indistinguishable from magic as far as I'm concerned.

Anything the Queen says or does might be a deception. The very fact that we are here against our wills shows that she is not trustworthy.

A romantic getaway. [She smirks at the phrase. She has little interest in romance.] If such seemingly random samples from various populations have been thrown together in a closed environment and our interpersonal interactions are of so much interest to our captor, then this does have the feel of an experiment, does it not?

Though we have no proof for either of our theories.

I've discovered that there is a woman here who knows me, but I do not know her, and she is not my comrade. I will continue to hope that one of my fellow SOLDIERs might appear.

I will inform you of any possibly useful discoveries I make. No one should be kept here against her will.
