[A voice post, as Hallibel still getting used to this place. She's simply musing aloud.]

I am used to hunger, but to need food... it is different. Pleasant. I wonder, did I have a favorite kind when I was human? So many memories lost to time.

Is it different here for everyone?

Sure. In a sense. Kind of.

Probably not in the way that it's different for you, though. Still, a difference is a difference, and that's plenty to bond over!

[A small sound of agreement.] This is nothing like any world I've been to. It's... just different, and from what I've seen over this vine, near everyone has the same experience.

...when you were human?

Correct. I cannot remember who I was, then, if this 'me' ever was at all.

Is this something new, or something you've only experienced since arriving here?

I was not human long before I came to this place. Decades, or centuries, I do not recall: time ceased to have meaning for me long ago.

I see. [it'll take her a while to wrap her head around that, though.]

Then what are you now?

Hollow. Menos. Arrancar.

These words mean little to you, I imagine, but that is what I am. A soul, one crafted from many.

Yes, I'm unfamiliar with the term.

But regardless, you've been brought here just like the rest of us. Hm, so it's not limited to just humans then.

If you are curious, I will explain.

There are many here that are not human. I can feel it in their spirit. There are also many who are human, yet somehow... more.

You're... not human anymore?

No. I'm not sure I ever was.

What would you be... what would you have been if you're not?

[Patiently, and without any shame for the facts.] I am an amalgamation of souls. I do not recall how many were merged to create what I am now.

[ There's a long pause. ]

... Souls.

I'm sorry, I don't— I don't understand.

If a human dies and their soul is not ready to move on, it lingers in the mortal world. Should it linger too long, it becomes a Hollow, and it begins to prey on other souls.

Should it feed on enough, it will begin to merge with its fellow Hollows. Most of the time, these merged Hollows, the Menos, are mindless automatons, but on occasion, a dominant personality emerges among the many and controls it all.

That is where I, the personality you now speak to, begin.

[ For someone who believes very, very strongly that souls pass on to an afterlife, this is actually pretty disturbing. Caprica's voice falters a little. ]

You're... like a ghost.

[There is the sound of a zipper, and her voice becomes muffled.] That is an acceptable word. The classic definition of 'ghost' does not apply to me, however. I am solid. I bleed. And I can die.

I see.

[ She doesn't, really, but it's better than trying to keep pressing for answers she doesn't understand. ]

So you didn't need food, before?

[She could explain this all day long, but moving on is fine. Hallibel is cool like that.]

The strong devoured the weak. I was strong. Devouring lesser Hollows was all I needed... but on occasion, we had tea.

[ She makes a quiet noise that's almost a laugh at how mundane tea sounds next to that. ]

From what I can tell, there are plenty of fruits and vegetables here, and wildlife, if you can hunt.

I do not wish to kill so that I may live. Fruits and vegetables will be fine.

Well, what everyone else asked, but I totally recommend donuts or curry for a favorite food if you can't remember yours.

.... They don't have those here from what I've been told, though. [Dramatic sigh.]

Donuts and curry. I will remember to try those, if the chance should arise.

Does me not being human matter?

I don't know! It seems like it's at least a little mean to judge someone on just whether or not they're human, right?

I've never thought about it. I've never even spoken to a human before coming here. There is no reason to automatically look down upon you that I can see, however, and I assume that goes both ways.

You don't consider yourself human anymore?

...There were a few things I was fond of growing up, but I'm not sure I'd be able to make much of it here.

I believe I was once. The memories of that time are long lost.

You will simply have to make do with what is available to you. It's a harsh rule for life, but valuable to learn.

I learned that a long time ago, believe me.

I am... a spirit. A ghost, in the loosest of terms. It's more complicated than that, but it will suffice for the moment.

Between the vampires, psychics, mages and other weirdness here, sure. I'll buy that.

Me, I was just a soldier before.

I was a soldier as well. [She sounds more than a little bitter.] No longer.

Before or after you... (she stops at the tone of voice.)

I recall nothing of who I was before I became what I am.
