[An anonymous text pops up on the vine. The handwriting is neat and steady print, but some of the letters are drawn a little oddly.]

Hello everyone. The queen brought us here to hook up, right? But seeing as there are only girls here, well, then that would obviously only work with lesbians. Therefore I am conducting an anonymous poll to try to understand the sexual preferences of our group as a whole.

Please respond back with your sexual preference as well as any notes or comments that have relevance. There is no need to reveal your identity if you don't want to. And, if you want to keep it simple and don't want any discussion of the matter, please just write a number.

Write "1" if you are a lesbian.
Write "2" if you are attracted to other girls but aren't totally sure.
Write "3" if you go for males and females.
Write "4" if there is a certain female you'd go for but not any other girls
Write "5" if you think you're not gay but aren't 100% sure
Write "6" if there's no way you'd be in to girls

Thank you. Hopefully this will help us understand who the Queen has brought here and why. [Because the author surely has no other motives.]

My dear anonymous questioner,

I would never have given the matter much thought, as I have had little opportunity to school myself in the ways of Eros before my arrival in this strange land. I had assumed that an attraction to the opposite sex was the only natural option, and yet I must admit that I have found myself feeling an "unnatural" attraction in response to one of the young ladies in this very place!

As an answer, I am uncertain which number to select, for I appear to be lacking in a statistically relevant sample size. For now, I shall mark myself as "3," under the assumption that there exists the potential within me for attraction to either sex.

I appreciate your kind words, though I am unsure as to the wisdom of pursuing the matter further, as I worry that, without the guidance of my father, I should come to ruin. I understand this is a perilous enterprise. Still, I suppose it cannot be a great danger to observe and note any such feelings I might sense in the future.

I do hope that your own research into this matter is fruitful and brings you success.

Ruin? That seems a little extreme to me. I mean, hearts can get broken and all that, but that's going to happen regardless of outside guidance.

Thank you again for your kind words. I feel you flatter me on my writing skill; I am surely neither novelist nor journalist, though I do try my best when the written word is called for.

My father has often warned me of the many dangers a human woman may expect from imprudent dalliance. While I am sure that some are not likely to happen when such dalliance should happen with another lady, I would feel much safer were I to have his hand to guide me toward a mate who is suitable to myself and my circumstances. He has also shared many tales of woe regarding the pursuit of romance, and I am quite certain I would benefit from his experience.

However, one often may find oneself without the benefit of the greatest minds, whether through pioneering or circumstance, and it may be that I must find my own way. Yet I wonder if there might be a person here whose wiser mind and greater experience I could rely upon, to best make my way through the untamed jungle of romance.

If you are not reunited with your father soon, perhaps you can at least find someone experienced in romance that you can "rely on."
