Eighth Leap [Text]

[A short note appears on the Vine not long after the Gardens calm down once again. It's not perfectly written but nor is it exactly sloppy, instead leaning slightly towards the former, with a couple shakier words towards the middle.]

Sorry for not saying anything the previous time to most of you, but... I suppose I should write it this time. In any case, Madoka Kaname seems to have left here again.

Sorry for any problems this might create.

Sorry, things aren't really in a state to receive guests, but... [She opens the door wider to reveal the entranceway. Only one pair of shoes sits ready in the darkened foyer, Homura's, her other pairs and what remains of Madoka's put away in racks in the closet.]

Don't worry about that. [She slowly walks in and takes off her own shoes. She does take note of the lack of more shoes as well.]

[Homura makes her way with unenergetic steps inward, leading towards the living room, where a couch and a couple chairs sit next to a coffee table.] Sit anywhere you like, Miki-san.

Alright. [She takes a seat on the couch. But with the way Homura is being, and the fact she doesn't exactly know what to do, her face is a little stressed out.]

[Homura takes a seat in one of the chairs across the table. She's quiet, only speaking up a little.]

Sorry, I could make some tea, but...it wouldn't be anything like Mami-san's...

Come on... don't apologize for that. And don't feel like you need to, I came out of nowhere anyway.

[More silence, until...]

... I should be the one saying sorry. I'm the one coming here wanting to talk about your love for Madoka, at generally the worst possible time...

I knew how much she must have meant to you, so with how much you've gone through now... I'm scared that you might make one of those stupid mistakes I did...

[It's quite blunt. Were she in a better state, maybe she would have blushed violently at that forwardness about her relations with Madoka out of nowhere. But instead her eyes simply drop to the table in front of her.]

...I see.

Which is why... if there's anything at all that I can do to help, I'll gladly do it.

[Her eyes close, her head turning to the side, tears rolling down her cheeks.]

There's no helping it. She's gone now.

...I can't do anything but wait.

[Sayaka pauses for a moment.]

... Wait?

[Wait for what, she doesn't exactly know.]

[It's hard enough to maintain her composure, something she's been clinging to as best as she can, some idea that if she doesn't cry it'll make things easier. But all it does is bottle it up inside her. Maybe if she had been some other way, she could numb herself to that all. But it won't work.

Her voice wavers a bit, soft as it is already.]

She'll come back again, won't she? To stay?

[... Ohhhhhhhhh. Sayaka knew something was off, even before, so this just... really explains a lot. She hides the fact she only just figured it out though.]

... Yeah. I'm sure she will.

Even if she doesn't remember... [...it would still be something, rather than the feeling of being taunted by something or someone else.]

Even then, you'll still be the most important person to her.

[There's silence for a long moment, Homura's hands balling at her skirt.]

N-No, I wouldn't...

[It comes out painfully, a huge tightness building in her chest.] All she r-remembered was the other me. N-Not even...more than a month...

[A deep breath, and then Sayaka rises up and leans over beside Homura.]

While there are differences... the both of you still cared deeply for Madoka. While I may not have the highest of opinions on her... Madoka did. Even though you're not exactly the same, I doubt it would really matter to her, "Homura is still Homura". It just might take some time... something that didn't happen this time.

And... well, just like you, maybe the one you knew before could show up.

[Homura makes no moves to react to that, but in voice, strained with emotion.] Which one? Most of them are dead...or worse...

[If she could be more rational right now, she would be able to point out the flaws in that statement, particularly in light of Sayaka being right there too. But it's too hard to do that right now. Her feelings, she can't cut herself off from them. They're still there, stirring within her. She can't even stop herself from bringing that point up.]

... Huh?

[It was a simple response, but that's only because Sayaka has no other possible words she could say to that.]

[It's more than Homura gives in turn, her bangs hanging in front of her closed eyes as they are directed down to her lap. Whether or not she heard Sayaka's question, she doesn't give a response.]

[Okay, that was an odd thing to hear. But it has to be Homura freaking out. There's no way she'd know that for sure. Yeah, that makes sense.]

Now look, life back there wasn't exactly the best, but that doesn't mean any other Madoka would be like that.

Besides... I'm dead and worse.

No...No, you aren't...

But I was supposed to protect her... [She had made her wish. Madoka coming back from being that towering witch...it seems like it's impossible. But even if it is, she had let her turn into that. She hadn't known better, and Madoka, as self-sacrificing as she is, probably wouldn't think less of her. But in this moment of weakness, it's easy to latch on to that, amplifying her own faults.]

[She has her own objections to what was just said, but this isn't about Sayaka, so she drops that line of conversation.]

And you have. [Sayaka is saying all that she has seen, and that's her call on it.]
